May 2004 Archives

Almost done packing. @_@
Staying up all night tomorrow so I can catch the 7am plane. =_=;; Blar. I have to transfer at Washington Dulles too. *groan*
It's gonna be a long flight...(especially since I also have to transfer from Narita to Osaka Itami...)

but it's gonna be fun! :D

Finished with Farscape

| | Comments (1)

Just finished watching Farscape. Well, the TV series at any rate. Damn them cancelling the show. >( Grrr. It was definitely the best and smartest sci-fi on television at its time. (I laugh in your general direction, Enterprise.)

I suppose I really have the Farscape fandom to thank (I'm not a part of it, and I'm not entirely sure whether or not I should be) for bringing it back on the air this fall. Just goes to show what fandoms can do. That's just plain awesome, really. The fans wanted more Farscape, and now there's a mini-series airing this October. Sweetness. ^_^ Sweeeeetness.

Now if only the X fans could get together and get CLAMP to actually fucking finish the series, but no, the stupid X fans are too busy fighting amongst themselves every chance they get. *shakes angry fist at X fans*
Noo...no bitterness here. ^^;;

Gonna start packing up my room soon. I'm gonna miss you guys. I'll try to do photo updates here if I can. ^_^ No promises, but I'll do my best.

We're so screwed

| | Comments (2)

Almost done with Farscape! ^_^ Almost! I'm on episode 18 (Prayer) in season four. Just one episode before the "We're So Screwed" trilogy.

Leaving for Japan on Tuesday. @_@ That's three days away.
DAAAAAAMN.
I am so excited. ^_^

Thursday randomness

| | Comments (1)

Many, many thanks to Dan who bought me a nice network cards so I can actually connect. ^_^ Also thanks to Mike Short and his clan of hobos (ask him for the story about that), I have a laptop for my trip to Japan.

So now I can sit here in the music room of Fenway House, watch B movies (like Street Fighter and Eliminators) and roleplay at the same time. Just makes the overally experience so much more enjoyable. ^_^

Lastly, lots of love for Roni because...well...I love her. ^_^

Trigun Max

| | Comments (4)

First volume of Trigun Max is out! :3 *LOVE*
Now I get to see Legato do his crazy body-cast shit.
Which volume was it that had the Legato-mobile? I don't remember.

He is such a dork. XD *snerk*
Too bad Wolfwood killed him. -_-;; No more Legato-mobile, no more Legato-steak-fest, no more Legato-getting splashed with wine. ;_;

¬_¬ Sometimes I forget he's dead now. Like Seishirou. :x Maybe if I pretend longer, I can totally forget. :3 No one remind me.

Another lab day

| | Comments (3)

Another day spent in lab pulling up references and jiggling around with the peptide that won't assemble and turns watery at high pH. Why is the media not turning the correct color except when the peptide is liquified? Beats the hell out of me.

Went out to dinner with Ryuichi/Mike at Pho Pasteur. Mmm...pho. One of my favorite things on earth besides dim sum and Mountain Dew. ^_^ And that brings me to a little list I'd like to post, because for some odd reason I'm pissed off right now. *frown*

I really should have headed over Mike's house and hung out with him all night instead of coming back home. >( *grumbles*

Anyways, off to do things that are on my list of:

Things that Never Fail to Brighten Skuld's Day
1. One Piece: because as my friend put it, if you don't find it amusing, your inner child has died. And I'd like to think that my inner child is very much alive, kicking, and on crack.
2. Farscape: because there's nothing more amusing than a voice in your head named Harvey, and gratutious references to EVERYTHING.
3. Good food: Preferably free, but I'll take cheap too. Includes sushi, pho, ramen, dim sum, candy, and anything else that I really enjoy.
4. Mountain Dew: There is nothing better to drink on this earth than Holy Piss Water. No, I'm not shitting you.
5. The Afronova Shuffle: It's just so fucking fun now that I finally got it straight. ^_^

Lab day

| | Comments (2)

Today was a lab day.
You guys know what that means.
Skuld spent all day in lab. =_=;; I've been here for the past four and a half hours, about. *gurgles* Where did my time go? I've gotten nothing done so I have to go back again tomorrow.

When am I going to have time to pack up all my shit to for Japan? No clue. Hopefully before the weekend starts. @_@ Spent all last night after I got back bumming around the "Intarweb" and most of the night roleplaying with Roni.
I really have to stop this roleplay addiction.
It is seriously killing my social life. I used to sit around with my housemates and watch movies and TV. Ain't so anymore.

And here comes the major dilemma. How do I split my time? Because my time is limited how do I decide who to spend it with? Which is more worthwhile? Which is more fun? How do I stop feeling shitty no matter which one I choose?

*sigh*

I wonder if there's roleplay gum. You know, like nicotine gum. XD
Or maybe I should see if I can quit cold turkey in Japan.
If nothing else, Osaka will make me do it.

I hear Osaka is much more fun and entertaining than Tokyo is, if that is possible. All my friends assure me it is so. I guess I'm going to party-ville. And I'll be at a university, and you know what that means. SLACKERS! Oh yeah.

Osaka is going to rock.

I can't fucking wait. I need a break...from EVERYTHING.

Capture the ass

| | Comments (1)

Because Ed and I think we're funny... ¬_¬
========
CONTEXT: Ed is thesing (writing this thesis).

Ed (8:06:37 PM): my ass fell off somewhere along the way. I'm assless.
Skuld (8:06:55 PM): Now you've got no ass for dg Dizzy to plug? That's a pity.
Ed (8:07:09 PM): ;___________; see what a sad situation it is
Skuld (8:07:13 PM): You better find it and glue it on again. Here, I give you a task with which to distract yourself.
Skuld (8:07:40 PM): *FANFARE*
Skuld (8:07:45 PM): Steal Sol's ass.
Ed (8:07:46 PM): .......
Skuld (8:07:49 PM): It's like capture the flag.
Ed (8:07:51 PM): .......
Skuld (8:07:53 PM): but it's capture the ass. XD
Ed (8:07:58 PM): don't look at me
Ed (8:08:04 PM): look at Ky, cause he clearly owns it.
Ed (8:08:15 PM): OOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO! *jo'ousama laugh*
Skuld (8:08:42 PM): Hey, that's none of my problem which team has the ass.
Skuld (8:08:44 PM): You just gotta get it. XD
Ed (8:08:55 PM):¬_¬
Skuld (8:09:03 PM): Sol's ass is pretty fine too. It's a nice piece of ass.
Ed (8:09:10 PM): *rolls eyes*
Skuld (8:09:15 PM): I think it would look pretty good on you. XD
Ed (8:09:29 PM): now you're attaching pieces of Sol to me? That's just.. disgusting :P
Ed (8:09:43 PM): I don't want him or any part of his hot-air-balloon body
Skuld (8:09:51 PM): Awwwwwww.
Skuld (8:09:56 PM): No one to jailbreak me. -_-;;
Ed (8:10:05 PM): ...
Ed (8:10:07 PM): jailbreak?
Skuld (8:10:17 PM): Dude, you ever played capture the flag/ass?
Ed (8:10:34 PM): oh. yeah.
Ed (8:10:42 PM): I didn't know you were still going for that metaphor :P
Skuld (8:10:58 PM): I'm quite attached to metaphors. But I wasn't actually metaphoring. I really wanted you to go after Sol's ass. Team Ky has had it forever.
Ed (8:12:59 PM): You are quite attached to more than metaphors. This is a whole freakin' allegory :P
Skuld (8:13:23 PM): XD Or just one big fantasy. :3
Ed (8:13:32 PM): *cough* well I'm not touching that.
Ed (8:13:40 PM): not even with Sol's 8-inch pole

New York City

| | Comments (1)

Here's the lowdown for my trip to NYC:

Woke up at 8:45am on Saturday morning so I could catch the 10am Chinatown bus (affectionately dubbed the SARS bus). Little did I know that there are two Chinatown bus companies (Travel Pack and FengWah) so Asphodel and I waited in the Travel Pack line while we were really FengWah. We narrowly caught the FengWah bus. @_@ Since I'd only slept about 4 hours the night previous (due to DDRing, midnight sushi, and drinking), I slept the entire way over. ^_^

We dropped our stuff off at a family friend of Asphodel's, and headed into the city to bum around. Being the manga nerds we were we headed immediately to the Book Off where we met Jojo, Alisa, and Mikhail. We headed off to Korean BBQ after hanging out for a bit, told some amusing stories, and then parted ways. Heads to all three of them, they're amazing people and I love them all. ^_^

Sunday Asphodel and I went to Dim Sum at Jing Fong in Chinatown where we were met by Yin, David, and Charm. We were going to go see Wicked but it was all sold out. Without a backup plan, we wandered around Times Square for the rest of the afternoon because we didn't know what we wanted to do. Charm and I spent a lot of time at the Toys R Us, which was awesome. I played a lot of Double Dash and we both sat around at raced each other at Where's Waldo. I think Charm did better than me, but we didn't keep track.

Then on Monday I went to the Chinese Consulate to grab my visa for my visit later this summer...and now I'm back home in Boston. ^_^ Didn't do much on my trip, but I still did have a lot of fun.

Love to everyone I met and everyone I wasn't able to meet. There was lots of fun and great stories to be had! I'll try to stay longer in NYC next time so I can hang with everybody there I know. :3

NYC

| | Comments (3)

Hitting up New York this weekend. Whee!
Laptop has no functional internet (can't figure out why, network card may be busted), but whatever. ^_^
I just need to plug it in for fanfiction and whatnot. :3 That's all I care about. I just plain need to write.

If anyone wants to hit me up in NYC, my phone number is in my LJ, friends locked of course. :3

ACen pictures!

| | Comments (1)

ACen pictures here, wot wot! ^_^
They can be found in this folder. I hope you all enjoy. ^_^ Most of the pictures are of my friends, I didn't have the disk space to take non-friends pictures, which is very sad.

Somehow I still managed to miss a lot of people I wanted pictures of, like Jennie and Mike's Pimp Gendo...
but that's okay. :3 I shall get them again...sometime. ^_^

Here are the highlights:

Ali-chan and Jen as Claus and Dio from Last Exile

Lins as Dizzy

Heather, Scott, Roni, and Skuld as Pirate Dizzy, Bridget, Ky, and Sol. Scott makes the cutest Bridget I've ever seen. ^_^

Guilty Gear group in fighting poses. Who are we fighting against? >) the Trigun group, obviously.

Stripper!Vash. He is some hot stuff. :3 And Roni gets to hug him. I'm so jealous. XD

Jen, Ali-chan, and Dan as Eiji, Ryoma, and Yuta.

A guy Haku from Naruto. Rock.

Speaking of rocks, here's an awesome Rock Lee.

You guys know the blowjob ending trick in GGXX with Sol and Ky? Here it is, even better in real life.

Sol/Ky huggles. Awwwww. ;_;

I've realized that in an effort to emulate Sol Badguy's badass look, I end up looking rather dorky. I'm not sure what that look actually is. @_@ Let us just hope that I don't have it on my face all the time. >_>

So since Roni and I didn't get enough SolxKy pictures, I guess I'll have to go as Holy Orders Sol to Anime Boston 2005, in addition to possibly making my Ren Ying Ying costume... >_> Though we'll have to see about that. XD *grins*

Housemeeting tonight, let's hope Destra can move in if the house approves her.

Avatrix took Destra and me out last night for ramen. ^_^ Too bad the place is called "Sapporo" and not "Ichiraku." Avatrix was wonderful and gave me two Naruto doujinshi anthologies *love* and Destra got me addicted to Pretz. =_=;; D'oh.

Then we headed home for some doujinshi perusing, chatting and watching Midori no Hibi, which is at the top of my "current favorite shows" list, if you can get past the strange premise. ^_^

Gonna hit up the Sunset tonight and have a couple of drinks with Destra and Avatrix, and then there's the housemeeting on Thursday night to see if Destra can come and live with me in Fenway. Let's hope Chris won't be stupid and annoying and try to block her because he "doesn't like her."

*big frown*

Then its off to NYC for the weekend. ^^ w00t.

And that, is how I plan to unwind for the last couple of weeks for my stay in the US before I go to Japan. Whee!

Okay, here's a more detailed account of what actually went on:

THURSDAY
So after my last 9.70 class I immediately head my ass over to the airport. I make it in record time (25 mins. holy fucking shit), only to be foiled by the weather. Apparently Chicago had a nasty storm that night, so they couldn't let any planes leave, and they had to let planes land. This meant that ground traffic was pretty backed up. Even though my plane was slated to leave at 5:30pm after being bumped up to an earlier flight, Chicago wouldn't let any arrivals take off from their home runways until they gave the all-clear signal, which resulted in me sitting in a plane for about a full 6 hours total. I took off the runway around 9pm, after having sat on it since 5pm. =_=;; Blar. At the very least, I got A LOT of studying for final exams done, so I think in that sense the gods were being benevolent.

I made it to Chicago unharmed, found the Fuuenken (they had to put it through cargo since I couldn't carry it on), hopped into Roni's station wagon, where she had a sloppy joe, some onion rings, and a diet Dr. Pepper for me and went home. We didn't do anything because we were both fucking exhausted, so we crashed in bed.

FRIDAY

Went to the con center/hotel, only to find out that our hotel was being held off until 3pm due to the nasty shit at the airport last night. Grrrr. So we didn't climb into our costumes until about 4 or 5pm. Anyways, the pre-reg line was longer than the regular reg line (t3h suckage), but I think I only waited for about 45 mins to an hour before I got everything and we were all good to go. Unfortunately, Jennie got there before us, but managed to get out half an hour later, because the queue gods were being unfair.

Roni and I hit the dealer's room immediately, where I lost nearly all my money to Brian the happy yaoi doujinshi guy/physicist (god, I wish I was physics again). He gave me his e-mail address and his card, and promised we could hang out for Comiket. ROCKIN'. I came out with Tsubasa 5, and two Shayoukan doujinshi (I just can't resist Shayoukan. -_-;;).

Then we managed to finally meet up with everyone after we got our rooms, and spent a bunch of time in the game room and just generally hanging out.

As soon as the con suite's karaoke time arrived, my group and I headed over there, where I made everyone listen to me and my wonderful, better-than-everybody-else's (I kid you not) 4th Naruto Opening. :3 I was so pumped up. XD (We are fighting dreamers...<3)

Lins and I wanted to go swimming, but by the time we got around to it the pool was closed, and Rah, Alisa, Dan, and I headed over to the suite 2040 party instead. They were handing out booze (to those of legal age, of course ^_~) in mostly shots and cocktails, and I had enough to get myself shitfaced. That's where I met Eli and his friend, John (who was absolutely adorable), and we headed over to Eli's room along with Mikhail and played some strip poker. (Because we were just that fucking drunk.) I only stripped down to "swimsuitness" (bra and panties) and left first, staggering back to the room after collecting my losses/clothes, and crashed into bed with Roni.

SATURDAY

Woke up, showered, and headed over to Mitsuwa, the japanese marketplace for lunch. Roni bought me lunch, which was very, very sweet of her. Lunch consisted of miso ramen and some sushi, which we didn't finish because there was just so fucking much of it. I bought some Hi-Chews to tide me over the weekend and some milk tea/crack, and we went back to the hotel for the Guilty Gear photoshoot.

We went downstairs, found a few Guilty Gear cosplayers, and before we knew it we had amassed a huge-ass fucking group. @_@ Holy shit. ACen security complained that we were blocking traffic (that's how big we were...and how many people were taking our pictures) so we moved outside to the side of where the Trigun group was shooting. Then someone had the bright idea to do a Trigun vs. Guilty Gear shoot with the two of us, and that was a riot. ^_^;; We must've been out there for half an hour hanging out with the Trigun people before we finally dispersed.

Can't really remember what happened after that, aside from hitting the game room again, hitting the consuite again to be fed (ACen actually fed us free of charge: chips and salsa and cheese mostly...in addition to lots and lots of soda...holy shit, I'm so going back next year), and wanting to swim really badly. At some point in time we all headed up to Scott's room to play Smashies, where some drunk guy mistook him for a girl (well, he was in a Bridget costume after all) and we had some good laughs. XD Lins and I hit up suite 2040 again but I didn't drink, and I spent the rest of the night in the room trying to study and just generally hanging out with peeps...with a short break inbetween when Me, Mar, Dan, Rah, and Alisa ran outside to play with water balloons. Life was good.

SUNDAY

Woke up, packed our shit, and just hung out. Just plain hung out. Then we headed off to the airport where Ed fed me McFood, and I was happy hanging out with him and Ed. And of course, being clones and all, our planes, even though they were an hour apart from each other took off from the same gate.

Clonage, go. XD

I came home, studied a bit, watched some Farscape and then crashed.
And that was my weekend of rockness.

ACen rocks. If it was bigger, it would be as cool as Otakon. Which also, incidentally, ROCKS.a

DONE

| | Comments (4)

I'm done for the year.
Skuld has successfully completed her junior year. :3
Assuming of course, that I pass 9.09, which I'm pretty sure I did.
I want to I say I raped that test, but usually when I say that the test comes back and bites me in the ass. Let's just say that I did all right, except for a few minor bits on the multiple choice, and maybe not enough detail in the short answers. :x

I don't know how much that'll kill me. -_-;; Let's hope not at all. @_@ Because I swear to god what we learned was not that detailed in terms of intracellcular signaling cascades. But you never know until you get your test back...

But I'm DONE DONE DONE DONE DONE.

ACen pictures and report to come soon. ^_^

Oh, and for those of you who are eagerly awaiting ficcage, I totally totally got inspired for more of the NarutoxSasuke that Destra and I have been working on. I even bought a paid account for my drabbles/fic journal so I can have more pretty icons. >_>

I'm terrible. But icons are addicting. ^_^ *grin*

Anyways, more tonight after I finish all of my annoying-ass errands. ACen report, pictures, and ficcage, if Destra (who is currently in town) doesn't drag me away from the computer in a mad stampede for dinner and booze. ^^;; Huzzah!

Go!!! by Flow

| | Comments (1)

Before I forget...
I promised some of you that I'd put up the lyrics to Go!!! by Flow, the fourth Naruto opening when I got them.

Well, I submitted them to AnimeLyrics.com Forums shortly before ACen. ^_^

They are here. Enjoy!

Back from ACen...and new layout too. ^_^
Those of you who are big Tolkien fans will understand the coolness of this new layout. :P Aiya Earendil!

Anyways...
I have a final exam tomorrow so I'm too busy to write a real update right now. Full ACen report with pictures coming up soon. =_=;; Whenever I have time to myself that is not spent frantically studying. @____@

Good luck to me on 9.09 exam tomorrow morning.

ACen

| | Comments (1)

Off to ACen!
I hope I've remembered to bring everything I"m supposed too.
(Still can't shake this feeling that I've forgot something...but...oh well. @_@)

See all y'all there! ^_^

PS. Haku: I'll give you a call on Friday to see what your schedule is like.

If there was any one

| | Comments (6)

If there was any one time where I had no clue what was going on in my Japanese class, it was now. Why? Because I got lazy and didn't do the reading properly, which was a big mistake considering that each paragraph had on average 10 new vocab works. =_=;;

Blar.

Great way to spend my last Japanese class--wishing I'd stayed at home, in bed and slept in.

On the good news, I am nearly through with season 3 of Farscape. @_@ Wow, I'm just totally ploughing through! XD I obviously won't be able to reach my goal tonight of finishing all of season 3 (three episodes left). Maybe I'll at least try to get two episodes tonight before I head off to ACen.

Speaking of ACen...
I get to see my girlfriend again tomorrow. ;____; *happiness*

I better get some booty or I'm going to be disappointed. :P

Oh, and while I'm at it, I had an interesting dream:
I know I've been watching Farscape obsessively lately (*sniff* No one else seems to agree with me that Ben Browder is the spitting image of Sol Badguy...*sniffles some more* I must have some extra cracky crack or something), so obsessively that it's been in my dreams.

I'm walking around a mall by myself and I see a preview for a sci-fi movie called "Aeren" about a crew stuck in deep space on a living ship (read: leviathan) named Aeren. (note: simliarity to Aeryn.) The main character is played by Claudia Black (who plays Aeryn Sun in Farscape) and her name is Soon (note: simliarity to Sun), and the villain (read: bad guy) is played by Ben Browder. And I'm sitting here watching this preview thinking to myself, "Wow, this is really scarily like Farscape...¬_¬."

Farscape's getting to my head. Next time I'll be sitting around muttering to remnants of neural clones in my head and naming them Harvey. Then we can dress up as Easter bunnies and wrestle each other around.

...scary how only one person I know will get this all. ;_; I need to find a Farscape fandom. QUICK.

Fuuenken

| | Comments (3)

Fuuenken is finished.
Could've done a better job, but lack of time prevented me and Nigel from actually make it flame.
Oh well.

pictures will be up when my batteries get charged. :x

Nice and toasty low-80's here in Boston today. ^_^
No class, but had to stop off on campus for daily DDR, printing out some shit, and returning videos to the film office.

Should've stayed at home and got work done...but oh well.
Hopefully Fuuenken will be finished today. XD We can only hope that the wood I"m using doesn't crack anymore. >( *sighs*

Essay to write tonight, as well as to get really far studying for the 9.09 midterm. Wish me luck, folks.

Elegant solution

| | Comments (1)

The shower has provided me with an elegant to solution to my problems.

Before 4am: sleep
After 10am: get up
Skip: 11am-12am Japanese class
Go to: 1-2:30pm 9.09 lecture
work on paper: 10am to 12pm

I'm a fucking genius.

Pain and Misery

| | Comments (1)

Guess what sucks?
It's a little past 3am and my efficiency has just fucking hit rock bottom. Urgh. =_=;; Need to shower (which will hopefully wake me up) and then hit the books for finishing up the introduction and discussion portions of my paper for lab. Then I'm done with the UROP thing until finals are over, when I pick it back up.

This week is going to be pain and misery until ACen. Burgle. No sleep. No rest for the weary and overworked. This is all ACen's fault. Stupid school, scheduling it right over the reading period of finals. Dammit, couldn't they have picked a better weekend? Like the week before or the week after? This is going to happen next year too, isn't it?

God hates me. I'm convinced.

It's 3:09 am, and my head hurts and I want to sleep, but dammit, I can't or my lab is going to fucking whoop my ass. =_=;;

Someone get me sugar. Please. *whimper*

Dilemmas

| | Comments (2)

Farscape has eaten my brain. No, really, Farscape actually has eaten my brain. @_@

All I can think of day in and day out is "do I have time to watch more Farscape tonight?" Even though I've been trying to keep up with my anime (I'm behind in both Midori no Hibi and One Piece), Farscape is just...so good. ^_^ It's the witty writing and the bad sci-fi plot. Somehow Farscape turns bad sci-fi plot into good sci-fi. Wowee, baby.

So here's the dilemma: inevitably, when Skuld gets into something, she gets into the slash/yaoi fandom for that. But who does Skuld want to slash in Farscape? Farscape knows sci-fi fandoms, and man, does it know slash. There are a few little things they feed the slash fangirls that just make the show absolutely hilarious and phenomenal.

Crichton/Crais - 2x15 - Crais shows up as a police officer with bright red pumps. XD Somewhere in Season 3, Crichton's in Crais's quarters on Talyn, wondering if there's anything incriminating, like "pumps" in there. XD

Crichton/D'Argo - 2x15 - Gary (D'Argo) and Crichton have a little talk in the car which is uh...very obviously slashy. >) 3x13 - Crichton and D'Argo are in a bar/club on a pleasure planet, and two girls come up to them and ask, "Are you two a couple?"

Scorpius/Crichton - Season 4 Farscape commercials: there was one that was so suggestive, I squealed so loud I broke everyone's eardrums.

Therefore...
Crichton/Crais - Nuh-uh, ain't gonna happen because Crichton loves Aeryn, and Aeryn is cool.
Crichton/D'Argo - Nuh-uh, ain't gonna happen because I don't want to even think about it.
Scorpius/Crichton - ...Scorpius...ew. :P

Crichton/Aeryn - straight, but oh so cute. <3

D'oh, and therein lies my dilemma.

I think I'll stick to my anime/manga yaoi now. :/ Anyone up for ZoroLu?

Not anyone I knew, I

| | Comments (1)

Not anyone I knew, I don't think...but there's a couple every year.

Skuld will now sing the song of being hosed with work.

Lesee, it's not so much the work (one project and one paper left for next week, and the project's not that bad) but the paper (gee, I'm not even sure what I want to write about) and studying for the final (since I'm a frickin' idiot and have decided that Anime Central is more important to me than 9.09... hur hur hur, I'm going to regret that, I just know it) are totally going to kick my ass. :/

So yeah, don't expect me to be online.

Skuld is on radio silence until the final is over, which will be Tuesday the 18th. You will see very little of me until then. And even after that... >_> We'll see. I have a paper to churn out for my lab for publication. @_@

So I would have gotten a lot more stuff done yesterday if it weren't for the fact that forty-five minutes before the lecture, Ali-chan let me in on a Matt Thorn lecture.

So Matt Thorn is one of the leading academics on manga, and on shoujo manga in particular, which by association he also knows a lot about the shoujo manga audience, and by that, yaoi/boys love. I went to his lecture, learned some interesting things about the origin of comic books and manga (did you know that there was male homoerotic/homosocial stuff way back in the 1920's and 1930's, drawn by males for other males?), and then hung around with him, Mel, Ray, Philip, and Prof. Henry Jenkins afterwards for more one-on-one chatting.

It was cool. :3 And I guess I now have connections to a professor at Kyoto Seika University. Too bad Matt's not going to be in the Kansai area over the summer (he's currently a visiting scholar at Harvard University), otherwise we could all hit comiket together. ^_^

Anyways, since Matt has asked me to, here's a questionnaire on his website that I'm plugging. ^_^

Oh yes, and ILTFP (I love this fucking place) because of professors like Henry Jenkins (pop culture, video games, fandom), Ian Condry (Japanese pop culture, j-music) and Matt Thorn (okay, he's not a prof. here but he did give a lecture and hang out). ^_^ MIT GO!

I had a Japanese presentation today, on Otakon, and I did it in my Sasuke costume. ^^;; The teacher asked me to, so I did it. :3 Because I R 1337 cosplay dork.

vampires and rape

| | Comments (2)

"I can't stand vampires and people who claim to be them. If there are real vampires, then there should be real vampire hunters. I don't have a beef with Mr. Tepes because I think we can all agree that impaling 20,000 people on stakes as a negotiating tactic is sufficiently awesome. What I have a problem with are these 14 year old losers who hang out at raves wearing prosthetic fangs, listening to obnoxious happy-hardcore dancing with giant platform shoes (courtesy of "Hot Topic," because all vampires shop at trendy clothing stores for their pre-packaged sub-culture needs). When they're not busy doing the dishes for their allowance, they're out doing evil things like smoking, staying up past curfew, or reading books on the occult at Barnes & Noble. They join little "sanguinarian" clubs and they change their names to something adequately evil like Raven, Ivy or Memnoch.

These are the same people who say they laugh during dramas when someone gets killed. We all know a person like this, they think they're morbid and mysterious because they force out a contrived chuckle during a death scene. Oooh, you laughed during a murder, you're so unique and evil. The fact that the number of members in these stupid clubs surge every time a new "Blade" movie comes out eludes them. Who has time for things like facts and responsibility when you're busy "feeding" yourself by having orgies that give you magical powers? Idiots. "

Amen.

I love Maddox sometimes...but then again I remember all the shit he has to put up with. >_>
I think would have turned out like him had I been forced to stay in Utah. Thankfully I took what little sanity I have left and escaped. ^_^

...and then MIT rapidly took my sanity away, bent me over, and has been assraping me since.

Damn. Ow. Junior year is almost over. Two weeks, baby. Two weeks with ACen in between, and then I'll be done with finals. w000t!

Dream last night

| | Comments (2)

Can't remember too much of my dream last night, but it did involve me and my family going out to some cabin in the mountains we shared with a neighboring family. Roni was there, which made the dream all the more sweet, though apparently she did miss her flight in the dream which caused us all to panic. XD

Anyways, I'm pissed because at least 2 classes I want to take next year are totally conflict. Grrrr. Grumble. >( Why is this happening to me? Well, at least the three classes I have so far are only Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and I hope to god my other classes will stick to that schedule.

Mondays

Mondays suck.
I got about 5 hours of sleep last night. =_= Blargle. I'm so fucking sleepy. *crash*

Anyways, don't remember much of dream, but I do remember hanging out with Frederick in his pre-Sol Badguy days and saying to myself one time, "Oh, so that's why you're so sloppy with your volcanic viper kickdown." That's all I remember. >_> I do hope the other bits of my dream involved much of Frederick and Ky sexx0r.

Thanks to Chris I now have the Six Day Slide CD. Damn, Boston has some pretty damn fucking cool local bands. Thumbs up to Six Day Slide, The Tint, and Big Top Vertigo. ^_^ w00t.

I might be tempted to

I might be tempted to say that I did nothing last night, but that's not entirely true. I did do something, but not very much. Reading two chapters of my 9.09 textbook ain't all that much...but hey.

So I got up yesterday at 2pm, after 10 hours of sleep, and immediately hauled my ass over to my computer to watch some Farscape. Then Will and Mike came over to my room at about 5pm, whence we headed to Porter Exchange for sushi. After sushi we stopped off at the MIT Game Room to play some DDR, and then I went back home to watch yet more Farscape.

I watched a lot of Farscape yesterday. Like...5 or 6 hours worth of Farscape. I have now finished the entire second season, and am moving onto the 3rd. Huzzah. I might be able finish this before I leave for Japan. ^_^ Yay!

During Farscape I read some of my textbook, argued with the clone about cosplay *grumble grumble* and did more RP with my lovely Roni. ^_^ Huzzah!

...and now, I am hosed today. :x Poo.

Oh, and Team RiVAL welcomes Beren Alex One-Hand to the Team. :3 w00t.

Sometimes I seriously wonder why I even bother going to Steer Roast. And this happens to me every year I go.

First of all, I know a lot of Senior Haus people, but I do not know a lot of Senior Haus people well. As much as I would like to get to know Mai better, I don't think it's going to happen given that both of us are hosed beyond belief, and I live off campus which makes getting together that much more difficult.

It's kind of no fun if you don't know where anyone's room is and you don't know the people you're hanging out with that well. Especially if they're hanging with their group of friends, which you don't know, and you don't quite feel comfortable with them because you know you don't entirely fit in. Like a square peg through a circular hole. And trying to fit in is just too emotionally tiring and draining, and you guys know I'm lazy.

So I hit Steer Roast for the lighting ceremony and for watching the mudwrestling, and then I wondered why the hell I was still there. On the way back to Fenway House, I met up with Mark, and we decided that getting together for some GGXX and subsequently getting my ass whooped (oh, I lament the dead of my 1337 S01 b4dguy skillz, may they rest in peace forever) was a good idea. After watching some Onimusha 3, I went up to Chris's place to play some DDR, watch some Naruto, MegaMan and Initial D (I can't believe I'm getting hooked to Initial D), and ST:TNG's The Best of Both Worlds, which I had, until a few hours ago, yet to completely see.

In short, I missed the strippers, I missed the pot, I missed the alcohol, the sex, the gambling and the debauchery. But I got DDR, anime, gaming, and Star Trek. And I realize, that despite how much I want to be a part of the 'cool' Senior Haus group, I am, a nerd at heart, and I prefer doing my nerdy things in small groups. :3
