Matlab: glarble.
*bangs head against wall*

Since it's been so long since I've last programmed, I guess it's time to start programming again.

Taking 1.00 next semester, the Java programming class. =_=;; Then I can really be 1337 coder! *strikes a pose*

Skuld's Law

| | Comments (16)

So it seems that my preciousssssss and her friends have been dealing with quite a bit of drama lately (okay, maybe "lately" was a bad choice of words), and I have always wondered how in the fucking world she and her particular group of friends manage to contract so much drama in a short space of a few hours.

Then it hit me like a frying pan in the head.
(gongggggggggg)

Skuld's Theory of Internet Drama ~ aka. Skuld's Law
The amount of drama that will involve you and your friends is exponentially proportional to the amount of females that are in your group of friends.

Observe the empirical data:

Roni's group of friends: more than 90% females
Skuld's group of friends: about 50/50

Roni's group of friends: Bring your umbrella to work today, because it will be raining DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA for the next of eternity.
Skuld's group of friends: Fair skies with small chance of drama preciptation, but the night shall be clear and the stars visible for you astronomy freaks.

And the scary part of it is, I bet if Ed, Big Hentai Mike, and I put our heads together, we could actually come up with a mathematical formula based on the variables of average years spent online and average involvement in fandom.

Note that small changes can be made for regular friendship drama, and not just Intarweb drama.

Yay, I have my own Law now. :D With Chang's Law and Skuld's Law, we can explain every single stupid thing we find on the intarweb. (Actually, just Chang's Law will do, but Skuld's Law makes some of the stupidity more predictable, as it contains real math. *gasp* Math doesn't lie, my friends!)

Special note: There are, however, a few cases exempt to Skuld's Law of Internet Drama, and that is the special case of DDR Tournaments, with respect to a certain individual named Rob (who is actually, as far as hearsay goes, not so bad once he's out of range of the machine).

Now I wait for the irony: someone to be offended.

I amuse myself waaaay too much. Have I said that before? Yes, I think have. ^_^

Anybody know...

Anybody know much about a band called Dengeki Network?
I really like their music. I rarely like Industrial Techno...but I like them.

feel-good playlist

| | Comments (13)

Just what the title says: want a playlist that makes you feel better? Try these songs first:

1. ZZ - A to Z (11th One Piece ending)
2. Bon-Bon Blanco - Bon Voyage (4th One Piece opening)
3. Flow - GO!!! (4th Naruto opening)
4. Bon-Bon Blanco - Arigatou, I Love You, Yet
5. Shela - Over There
6. Asian Kung-Fu Generation - Kimi to Iu Hana
7. Raiko - Alive (4th Naruto ending)
8. Kids Alive - Bokura no Bouken (Hikago 1st ending)

Yeah, I feel pretty sweet after a small chat with my lovely, good food, milk tea, a package (also from my lovely ^_^ <3), and good music.

I suppose I am a remarkably simple creature after all.

Longest entry ever

I have no clue how I manage to pack a day's worth of fun experiences, and a couple of weeks worth of angst all into one little package. Beats the hell outta me, I guess I'm weird like that.

But you guys get the fun first.

Dude, I have to say that today was one of the awesomest days I've had yet in Japan.

Hit three old temples in the Nara prefecture with Sam and Kalvin, and man, it was a blast. ^_^ We were collecting Shuuin (they're sort of temple signatures), and I've got a whole of four of them.

To amuse ourselves, we talked about the entire trip as an RPG game:
For example:

Skuld joins your party!

and we joked about each shuuin being a symbol of a level up. So I have 4 shuuin and have survive the harrowing 700+ step climb at Murou-ji, which means that I am around level 6 or 7, where as Kalvin and Sam, having a 2 week headstart on otera-hopping, are around level 20.

CURSES!

We laughed about save points on our climb of the long stairs at Murou-ji, and other cheesy things like my level 1 umbrella weapon. ^_^ It was awesome.

In addition to the great Murou-ji which we hit, we also went to Oono-ji (very close to Murou-ji, and not on our original agenda, so it was a side-quest) and Kume-tera. They're hoping to come around here tomorrow for more otera-hopping in Osaka prefecture, and that sounds like a good idea! I hope to amass a very impressive shuuin collection by the time I get home, even though I'll have to sacrifice t3h monies and t3h doujin/manga for it. ^^;; Oh well, can't be helped. I am devoted to my leveling.

no picture because I didn't feel like carrying my camera around, but hopefully Sam and/or Kalvin will post their pictures so I can show you all the totally awesome trip I had today. ^_^

Oh yes, and in order to prove yourselves all worthy of my infinite forgiveness/grace/blessings (which you may only receive if you are indeed worthy), take a test here as a symbol of your undying faithfulness. ^_^

Toodles my friends, until tomorrow, when hopefully I will have more tales of otera adventures.

And this is why people shouldn't hate Tsubasa...

Apparently Seishirou (in the Clover/X crossover universe Li and Co. are currently in) is searching for Subaru.

Or rather, he's looking for the "twin vampires," and he mentions Subaru specifically.

CLAMP...could it be you're FINALLY giving us the fanservice we've been waiting for all these years? Could it be you're FINALLY going to give us some happyending!SeishirouxSubaru?

...I won't keep my hopes up, because I know how CLAMP is. *shakes fangirl fist*

...now...time to go buy the weeklies and see if this sparks my SeishirouxSubaru bunny to come alive from its mostly dead state.

SeishirouxSubaru.
SQUEE.

Time for me to take up the profession of vampire hunting. ^_^ *whipcrack* ^_~

Packages

| | Comments (10)

Much love to Amberlee for her package I got last night. ^_^ Huzzah! Fruit roll-ups, rice crispies, and Easy Mac for me. *lovelovelove*
She is definitely going on my list of people I love. In addition to Dan Savage, whom I have recently started reading again thanks to LiveJournal's syndication feed.

Temple hopping this weekend with Sam and Kalvin, and doujinshi hunting for friends on Sunday. It's a full weekend, my friends! ^_^

Baito

| | Comments (16)

Baito => shortening of "arubaito" = part-time job.
Okay, I guess I'm not really supposed to be doing this, but I'm getting paid to have conversations with a wife of my colleague who is trying to improve her English. $40 an hour is really quite sweet considering how much money I spend per weekend. Oh, the rockness.

Kanako-san is also really nice and sweet, and her accent is really awesome. Huzzah for Japanese people who can pronouce "L" and "R" sounds. So yeah, looks like I'll be blowing that money this weekend on...*drumroll* STUFF! You know that Whitebeard shirt I had my sights set on? XD Yup, that's what I'm getting myself this weekend with the happy money I just earned having dinner and talking to someone. *squee*

In order to make myself even more money for stuff, I have decided that I shall be hiring myself out as a part-time "ass kicker." (See Maddox for reference) The usual applies, $25 base charge, meals and transportation not included in that price. Extra for women and children. >)

Of course, my darling gets huge discounts.

Here is an example situation in which I might acquire a shitlist:

vortex infinitum: ;_; there needs to be three seconds when people don't bother me. XD
AssBeaterSkuld: *beats other people* >( Stay away from my girlfriend for three seconds.
AssBeaterSkuld: :D I bet I can beat them badly enough they'll stay away for days. XD
vortex infinitum: LOL you should. XD
AssBeaterSkuld: >) I can. Who do you want me to beat?
AssBeaterSkuld: *cracks knuckles*
vortex infinitum: *die* Sarah, Lins, Britt, some random Slytherin people.
vortex infinitum: This girl named Kat.
AssBeaterSkuld: Okay. :D *makes up a shitlist*
vortex infinitum: Ave.
AssBeaterSkuld: They're goin' down.

And now, I present you...

SKULD'S SHITLIST
1. Sarah
2. Lins
3. Britt
4. Some random Slytherin people
5. Kat
6. Ave

Feel free to sign people for a good round of asskicking. I accept paypal, cash, doujinshi, and artbooks (at my discretion).

One Piece! Oh, my eyes!

| | Comments (16)

So apparently Sanji's chain smoking habits are obviously not suitable for children, so what are we going to give Sanji instead when we broadcast One Piece on US television?

A LOLLIPOP!
SANJI'S FUCKING ADDICTED TO LOLLIPOPS!

*starts to cry*

This is actually going to be really funny. I can't wait until I hear the voices. *falls over* It's going to be One Piece in a whole different context. Bialy's hoping for a Cheech voice for Usopp, and I have to say that I agree.

So somehow Zoro's three swords are okay, but Sanji's smoking isn't. *falls over* They'll probably end up editing out all the blood too.

Now here's the question about editing out blood: what're they going to do for the Luffy vs. Crocodile fight? >_>

Luffy: I don't need water, I'll use my own blood! XD *hardcore*
American!Luffy: I don't need water, I'll use my own __(insert bodily fluid here)__!

...damn censors.

Meals? Who needs meals?

I swear to God I could just live satisfactorily off Japanese snacks for the rest of my stay here. The combination of Koala Yummies (they're really called Koala no Macchi, but I call them Koala Yummies because that's what they are), Pretz, Pocky, Hi-Chew, Milk Tea, Amino Supply, Aquarius, Squid chips, Senbei, and other ricely mixed goods honestly is enough for a meal.

Though to be honest, the 18 pieces of sushi (not the roll kind, the kind with the fish on top and the chunk of rice on the bottom) and chocolate mousse I had for 1102yen last night was a smashing good deal. Had some tempura udon for 230yen today for lunch too.

Dude, food is ridiculously cheap here in Japan. And here I was thinking I was going to be going on a diet. Heh heh heh, no chance of that happening. XD I'll definitely be missing the food when I head back to the States.

*drumroll please*

Fans of Japanese Harry Potter fanart (I don't know how I managed to find Japanese Harry Potter fanart, but I strongly suspect that someone hooked me up waaaaay back when) should check out:

Fish Garden, which is infamous for it's bishounen!Sirius, and cute!Harry.

(Now if only I could find those really fucking sweet Harry/Draco pages I had a year ago...someone deal me the crack! O_X)

You know, that's seriously what I always imagined Sirius as looking like, even before I saw the fanart. (Excuse me for having an anime/manga-ish bias, but I even dream in anime these days so... >_> to say that it's a very large part of my life would be an understatement.)

And I know you peeps are always griping about, "Weh weh weh, stupid shallow fangirls don't think Gary Oldman is good enough." Don't get me wrong here, I loved Gary Oldman in "Immortal Beloved." I just always imagined Sirius Black completely different, and I do find Thewlis and Oldman hard to accept as my almost-OTP of Harry Potter.

Ah well, I don't think we can get everything in life we hope for. (Though I remember discussing with other SB/RL fans that Ralph Fiennes would have made a smashing Lupin...curses, foiled again.) ;_; Time to retreat into my sanctuary of HP/DM, because at least they're cast perfectly. :3 *pets Daniel Radcliffe and Tom Felton*

...and now, it's time for dinner. *stomach grumbles* Hara heta...

I have yet to see Prisoner of Azkaban, but Roni is still all over it and has been showing me pictures.

Observe.

I don't think I've ever imagined Sirius Black as one of those "THE END IS NEAR, REPENT NOW!" hobos, but it seems that the makers of the movie are far more creative than my paltry imagination.

...and I don't want to know what Hobo!Gary Oldman is going to end up doing with that stick/wand.

...and so I lament the loss of Bishounen!Sirius forever. (Dammit, where's that really nice Harry Potter fanart page again? Rawr!) ;____;

There is no time in Japan for me to do all the things I want to do. The first couple of weeks I was writing like crazy because I'd end up back in my room at around 7 or 8pm, but for the past three nights I've ended up back in my room somewhere around 10 or 11pm and I've had no time to write.

I still have fics running around my head, I'm just never certain when I'm going to be free enough to get them down. And this staying in lab for over 12 hours thing...I'm actually getting used to it and somehow the time flies.

It's still kind of lonely though, when the time difference is 13 hours or more and I'm missing all the happy things that go on during the days.

Oh well, now that I've got an RSS feed coming from here...you Livejournal people won't even have to click on my blog anymore. XD So, uh...heads up to the wonderful LJers who make my life so much fun. ^_^

...and now, back to work because crunch time has begun. =_= I have presentations this and next Friday. @_@

I'm really turning into a lab junkie.

A Day in the Life of Skuld at Osaka University
9:15 - Haul ass out of bed
9:25 - Breakfast (tea and miso soup)
10:00 - Get into lab and bum around the Intarweb for a while
11:00 - Decide it's time for work
12:30 - Meshi ni iku hito! (Time for lunch!)
13:30 - Get back to lab
14:00 to 19:00 - work bum work work bum work work work bum
19:30 - Meshi ni iku hito! (Time for dinner!)
21:30 - Get back from dinner
22:00 - Make the important decision of Intarweb vs. Going Home
23:15 - Shower
0:15 - Bedtime

See that lab junkiness? I got home last at about 23:00. =_=;; And somehow the time just passes so quickly. >_> I swear this is preparation for my life as a grad student. XD

Oh yes, and the grad student hazing ritual: You aren't a lab junkie until you spend the night in lab. When will Skuld spent her night in lab? July 1, 2004. Dude, at least they don't have showers in here so I can't get dragged off into the shower.

Hi-Chew addiction: can't be helped. They are just so fucking good. Period.
Milk tea addiction: see above.

Sometimes I forget that there is such a wonderful thing in this world as internet radio. I was getting bored of listening to my 15 hours of music on repeat...and lo and behold, I remembered that I can do internet radio with Winamp.

Digitally Imported Trance...
oh baby. And I am one raver baby that will never, ever get sick of trance.

So not cool

Okay, so plagiarism happens all the fucking time.
Personally, if I were to have one of my fan translations stuck upon the official Guilty Gear Isuka Website, I'd be pleased.
PROVIDING THEY GIVE ME CREDIT.

So if you look at the Timeline on the official Guilty Gear page, they ripped off my clone's translation, WORD FOR FUCKING WORD. And didn't give him credit about it.

Dude, if you're someone official and you think you can rip off a fan, you need some serious marbles knocked into that head of yours, because you're really missing a few.

So take a look at Ed's translation and the one on the GG page. >_> I find it hard to believe that someone who's translating from the Japanese would come up with the EXACT SAME TRANSLATION by coincidence. The probability of that happening is so small it's zero. The probability of someone ripping Ed off...non-zero.

Anyways, it seems that the forums have already sort of settled it, but that doesn't rule out the fact that what an official company did was extremely low. >(

Still...as soon as Ed gets his name on it...he'll have achieved what every fan has dreamed of. Acknowledgement by the royal "we." Sure, he had to go through annoying shit for it, but good opportunities never just fall into one's lap.

and Boo on Sammy America.
Stop wanking.

Sunday and Monday

| | Comments (10)

Not much going on right now.
Just finished the bulk of my work for the day, it's nearly 5:30pm here in Osaka. ^_^ Just gonna bum around for a bit before I start preparing for the talk I have to give in two weeks. (Thank god I don't have to give it in Japanese! That would totally stress me out. I have NO technical Japanese whatsoever. *laughs*)

Anyways, I ended up not going anywhere on Sunday. Sat around in lab bumming internet (which is what I do most of the time anyways) and then went back to my room where I finished up reading Dune and started The Forever War by Joe Haldeman, which you guys have heard so much about. ^_^ And then I spent the rest of the night talking to my sister on the phone (none of you bastards have called me yet! *sob*) and reading Aja's Harry/Draco fanfiction. I am so on a Harry/Draco kick right now. :D Can't help it, especially since the new chapter of Love Under Will was posted recently. *cheers wildly*

Also ended up beta-ing the first chapter of Asphodel's Harry/Snape fic. ^_^ And then went back to ponder over HP/DM some more. <3

The undergrad girls have a huge Chopper plushie they won at the UFO catcher arcade things in Umeda over the weekend. (Grr! I've been trying forever to get Luffy, but it hasn't been working. ;____; I don't even want to think how much money I've been spending on attempts to get a Luffy, both for myself and for Alex. I wish that places like Mandarake and Animate would just sell them.) I want to huggle the Chopper so badly, because it's so cuddly. ^_^ Especially its hat.

Oh, and heads up to the Bemani/GGXX crew who went over to Anime Next this weekend. I must go conning with them sometime. Not Otakon this year, so it seems, but hopefully they'll be hitting some places in the fall. >) Now I want to sit around my room and be working on my Seikishidan Sol uniform. :D But alas, all the Seikishidan action I'm going to get is Kuro Ky lifting his frock up to reveal he's not wearing anything underneath. XD *mwa ha ha ha*

...
The doujinshi's going to my head. x_x
And I don't even have any HP doujin yet. >_> Ph33r the moment when I finally give into my dark HP/DM desires. I am sure as hell ph33ring that moment.

Naruto manga 220

| | Comments (11)

Just read the raws of Naruto 220 in Chinese.
Boo, I bet I could've understood it better if it had been in Japanese...but oh well. -_-;; *sighs* Thus comes the pain of not knowing either language well. *grumbles*

Anyways, 220 reveals a lot more between Sasuke and Itachi than previously was there. Aaah, now I begin to see the reasons why Itachi is so cold to Sasuke in the flashbacks, and why Sasuke is always seeking to be acknowledged by him. ^_^ Coolness.

Nothing major this time 'round though, just some nice revealing bits of the interactions between Sasuke, Itachi, and their father, which creates interesting politics for Itachi later. >) I have my predictions, but I'll keep them to myself for now.

Saturday loot

| | Comments (13)

Okay, must stop spending money.
NOW.
When I say now, I will stop spending money aside from foodstuffs for the next week. :x Promise.
Today's trip: Den Den Town (yet again)

Today's loot (prepare for the list, biyatches!)

MANGA
Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles 6 (featuring Seishirou! *cheers wildly*)

Naruto "handtowel" (because Sasuke was lonely)
Gakuen Heaven clearfile (Higuri Yuu :3 *love*)
Trigun Legato Bluesummers Mini-bust (Finally, something Legato-related)
Trigun Knives Millions Mini-bust (Because Legato insisted)
Guilty Gear Ky Gashapon (Finally found it!)
3 Princess Tutu capsule figures (Tutu, Kraehe, and Mytho/Tutu)

DOUJINSHI
FF8: "Koi wa Mizuiro 2" by Crushers (and thus completes my set of the Koi wa Mizuiro trilogy and its sidestory, Drop)
GG: "Puchipuchi Guilty Hoshi" by Bombers (yet more puchi for me! ^_^) and "Black Cherry" by uh...I can't remember because all I cared about was the SolxKy-ness of it.

Artworks of Guilty Gear 2000-2004 (aka. the Guilty Gear Artbook)

PRESENTS
Roni: Guilty Gear Artbook
Charm: Various Tare-Ginji things
Dan: pencilboard

WILL CONSIDER BUYING NEXT TIME
One Piece T-shirt (3175yen)
Gungrave Background Artbook (or whatever it's called...about 2200yen)

...AUGH! Why am I still poor? ;_____;

Oh right, because that was a damn lot of loot for today. :D

Somebody really needs to stop me.
>_>
I went to the Umeda Mandarake again. Got presents up the wazoo for my mommy and more presents for me. Including my graphic twincest fic. >) (I have my little twincest fetish to blame entirely on Destra. I like twincest, and it's ALL HER FAULT!) But yeah, it's a KnivesxVash. Ooh, the sweetness. *droolies*

So yeah, bought a new phone card, so I have plenty of e-mails and a couple of air minutes for use within Japan, and then I bought more doujinshi. I find that I am really wanting to collect all of Crushers. *bad me* I might consider buying all of that KnivesxVash circle. >_> Crap, that's three circles I'm trying to collect from. (Crushers, Shayoukan, and the KxV.)

Did I ever tell you that Japan is bad for your wallet?

Oh, and I know I'm slow (I apologize, I've been up to here in Japan ^_~) but Love Under Will got updated a couple of weeks ago. Now if only I could actually remember what happens in there. >_> Time to save and reread, methinks. :D

Snacks

| | Comments (6)

It's Friday afternoon here in Japan,
and I sit here, editing pictures in Photoshop (to use as experimental stimuli) and I realize that I really do love Japanese snacks.

Rice crackers, Hi-Chew, and whatever other wonderful rice-based or sugar-based confections they might come up with. Right now these squid chips are owning me. Why don't they have these in the United States? :D I swear these things are healthier and tastier than anything Lays or Doritos could ever put out. (Though I do have to admit that I sorely miss everything guacamole flavored.)

Alas, I cannot take such things home, lest I sit at Fenway House eating squid-chip-crumbs. ;_; Which you know, might just be tolerable if not entirely ideal. ^_^

Still listening to the fourth Naruto opening. Fuck I love that song. *squee* I wish I knew when Jump comes out so I can go buy it. >_> Since I think it's off the shelves already, I better wait for the raws for the next Naruto manga chapter. Cause damn, the Naruto manga is really really good. :D I never thought I'd ever fall out of love with One Piece, but I think ninjas are a couple points ahead of pirates right now. :x

Oh, and thanks to Omi, I have Chapter 3 of "And Miles to Go..." betaed. ^_^ Go Knives x Legato. :D *crickets* (Yeah, me and Bennu seem to be the only KxL fans alive. *sniffles*)
Posted at rose.is.rain and The Pit of Voles/The Wasteland.
&

^_^ Enjoy, my friends/minions/cohorts/partners-in-crime/loyal subjects/pawns for my plan for world domination.

May the rolly office chair be with you always as I bum around the Kyoto/Nara/Osaka area this weekend, just me and my squid chips.

pwn pwn pwn

Washed my clothes again last night, hoping it's not the laundry detergent after all but instead something in the dryer. (I let it run waaaay overtime last time because was writing fic and forgot about my clothes ^^;;) *pray pray pray*

Anyhoo, gonna pop out and buy more Hi-Chews, I think. I ate the whole pack I bought yesterday. Just munched and munched and munched on them.

So much cheaper here than in the US too. I guess this means I'll have to make another crack run to the store on campus. Milk tea and Hi-Chew! Best things on earth! (Aside from yaoi, of course. >_>)

Oh yeah, and this for Charmii.

How to have a good time

| | Comments (8)

Skuld's recipe for having a good time

1) Make sure your inner child is still alive
2) Grab an office chair that has rolly wheels (and smoothly rolling wheels, at that)
3) Grab an uncarpeted hallway, preferably straight
4) Run, jump, slide, and go! XD

Can't wait 'till the person gets out of the basement.
Then it's MINE all night.

So much for writing fanfic tonight. :x
I'm rolling down the halls in my office chair, baby! Wowee!

EDIT: 20 mins. later:

This is why Japanese grad students suck. It's 10:30pm in lab, why are you still here? Stupid people foiling my fun. *shake angry fist*
When I'm rich enough to buy a house, it's going to have one long corridor, and I am going to have one pimpin' office chair.

Crack source

| | Comments (7)

I have now found a steady source for crack right on campus.

Crack being...
1) Milk Tea
2) Hi-Chew

...
:D My food money spending is going to rocket up now. *nibbly nibbly nibbly*

I'm Gonna Be...

| | Comments (3)

And now for something completely different random:

Title of my Trigun/Legato fic: "And Miles to Go..."

so the question is...how many miles does Legato have to go?

Here's the answer:
1000 miles

How did I get that?

Here's your answer:

"But I would walk five hundred miles
And I would walk five hundred more
Just to be the man who walked a thousand miles to fall down at your door."

...
^___________^
I amuse myself way too much.

...and that definitely goes on the list of songs I'll never get sick of. XD

Chapter 3 coming soon as soon as Omi finishes it. ^_^

Feeling hyper right now. :D
*listening to Speedy Mix of "Cartoon Heroes and really wishing she could play DDR*
Aaah, my DDR skillz are going to go to waste. I won't be able to even play Cartoon Heroes by the time I get back to MIT. *falls over*
Never fear, I shall get better! *shakes fist* :D I'll have enough money to bust anyways. And after I practice on t3h almighty GGXX stick...then I can bust my money on the GGXX arcade machine! Whoooooa, slow down, Skuld! XD Where's yo' money goin' girl? Didn't you want a cool gamer machine?

*bounces off walls*
I don't know how I can be so hyper after spending all afternoon making the desk for Miwa's psychophysical experiments. *tired* But oh well. Apparently I still have plenty of energy which I can use to bounce around with. ^_^ *bouncybouncybouncy*

Hmm...what shall I talk about today? COMPLETE RANDOMNESS! Now I'll sound like those kids with ADHD who post totally random shit in their LJs. We like to laugh at them on Something Awful. ^_^;;

Randomness 1) I'm going to make that Naruto music video to Cartoon Heroes one day, really. And the X one. >_> Yeah, I am. Not kidding you here.

Randomness 2) Naruto manga: OMFG. Love. Well, love in the Naruto=>Sasuke direction, it's not very reciprocal. I'm beginning to think that all those Itachi/Sasuke people were right.

Randomness 3) Girls don't like boys girls like cars and money

Randomness 4) Hey Ali-chan, I think I got you a Tsubasa pencilboard you already have. *falls over* You don't happen to have the Li one already, do you? *smacks self on head*

Randomness 5) Hamasaki Ayumi's "Moments" and "Memorial Address" => oh, so inspired for more Legato ficcage. Also, must karaoke to them.

Randomness 6) What's my cosplay schedule for AniBos next year? Let's see, probably going to ditch Ren Ying Ying (as much as I WOULD like to do her, I don't think I have the time unless I can find interesting things in China) because I want to:
a) fix up Legato and wear him so I can karaoke to pretty Ayumi songs
b) Ninja in the night with Ali-chan => doing Black!Sasuke
c) Seikishidan/Holy Orders Sol
d) Midou Ban (either to Ali-chan or Ko's Ginji)
e) Sawamura Seiji (right hand girlfriend! Huzzah!)
f) Kurogane or Fye D. Flowright (I think Roni would make a good Fye, so I'm cool with doing Kurogane. ^_^)
g) Eneru (This probably not going to happen, but I can still dream about cosplaying God! :D Okay, Eneru's not really god...but you know...I can still be like, "Yahahaha! I am Kaminari! Kami! God! Get it?")

...and that is way too much for me to even handle. *falls over*
And now...cosplay forcast:

a) Likeliness of Legato happening: 75%
b) Sasuke: 100% (dude, we're ninjas, we graduated from ninja tech.)
c) Holy Orders Sol: 95% (hopefully Roni's going to do Ky again)
d) Midou Ban: 80% (Nothing better than cheap and easy! :D)
e) Sawamura Seiji: 70% (ditto! Would have to get a wig and figure out how to do a good Midori. That's the hard part.)
f) Kurogane/Fye: 70% (this is entirely depending on two people: Destra, if she wants to do Yuuko, and Ali-chan, if she really wants to do Li. I might also defect to Touya or Yukito depending on Cocoa.)
g) Eneru: 10% (Too damn hard. But I can pretend I will anyway. :D Haven't seen any Eneru cosplayers yet. :D)

I am still feeling the power of randomness! Fear me! RAWR.
Can you tell I am so itching to go to Comiket even though its two months away? ;_____; And I am so sad I can't cosplay. Unless I get someone in Fenway house to dig out my Luffy costume (it's the only one I'm willing to wear in the sweltering heat of Tokyo in August). ^_^ Found a hardware store nearby that sells straw hats too. ^_^ Or I can buy a pre-made costume at Mandarake. >_> Unfortunately the only one I would be keen on wearing is the school uniform from Maria-sama ga Miteru, and I really don't know Maria-sama girl I'd want to cosplay. Okay, I lied. Rosa Gigantea. XD Shoujo-ai POWAA!!

...but it's about $100 and black.
Black => Hot. Not in Tokyo. =_=;;
Yappa dame da na...

Sometime tie me down. Seriously. @_@ *has all this spare energy*

Oh, and the first person to call me when I'm around on my cell phone:
my mother.

;____;
Y'all suck. *sob*

SCORES: *because Skuld has stared keeping score*
Flies - 0
Skuld - 6

But on the other hand, I am being pwned by the washer, dryer, laundry detergent combination. =_= I'm not sure either I'm allergic to the laundry detergent (that is weird, even though it's been known to happen, because it's only been the past 3 or so days that I've started having allergies. >_>) or something floating around the drier. >_> Guess I'm going to have to check by washing my clothes tonight and not drying them for so long to see if my theories are true. Otherwise...trip to the combini for new laundry detergent.

Itchy rashes, boo. ;_;

List of songs Skuld will never cease to like no matter how many times she's listened to them:

1) Birdhouse in Your Soul (They Might Be Giants)
2) Strawberry Kiss Kiss (Tokyo Babylon)
3) Bokura no Bouken (Hikaru no Go)
4) Keep Yourself Alive II Live Version (GGXX) only because I have the spastic urge to cheer with the fangirls you can hear. XD *whee! Sol! <3 <3 <3*

All hail They Might Be Giants. :D

Random update

| | Comments (13)

I keep forgetting to update random details.

Anyways, Sunday shall be known as the day of massacre. Upon arriving home from Mandarake, Skuld slaughtered no less than 20 annoying little flies in the first fifteen minutes she was in her room. Stupid random flies. >( No idea where they come from, but I swear to god, every time I kill one, another one just randomly appears. And I know they're not coming alive, because I'm flushing them down the sink. >_>

Over the course of the rest of the evening, I think I killed 60+ flies. Still no clue where they're coming from. Air conditioning vent? Maybe. Panel in ceiling of bathroom? Probably. *rawr* I've gotten very good a squishing flies between my hands and smooshing them against the wall. Mwa ha ha ha. *evil laughter*

Oh, and on another random note:

Monkey D. Luffy
Portgas D. Ace
Fye D. Flowright

...
are CLAMP One Piece fans? >_>

Sunday

So I went to Mandarake yesterday. I honestly couldn't help it. Apparently I was walking down the right street on Saturday when I was wandering around, I just didn't go far enough down the street. Like, I turned back on Saturday two or three shops before it. *falls over*

Got some loot, but mostly for friends. ^_^ All I got for myself were two more Crushers doujins. No yaoi, just some cuddling. ^_^ But it's still cute. So SeiferxZell!

Oh, and the Mandarake at Umeda is fucking huge. It's amazing. :D I have no reason to go to Den Den Town now, except for to visit the Animate, or get even more doujinshi, because I still think all the good stuff is over there. 8D

Oh, and as I read more and more Tsubasa, I realize that the manga's true nature is to only accomplish the following:

1) Make Shaoran badass
2) Make Fye and Kurogane hot, badass, and gay
3) a CLAMP crossover orgy

Only you, CLAMP. Only you can do it with style. XD

weekend update

| | Comments (2)

Whoa, big weekend update. Let's see...what's happened lately?
Went to a nomikai (drinking party) with the rest of my labmates on Friday night, and that was fun. :3 Drunk Japanese people are a riot. And then after that for the nijikai (second place) we went to a karaoke parlor around here. ^_^

I sang all my favorite songs, including "The Real Folk Blues" (oh, the rockness of that <3), "Go!!!" (twice!), and other anime favorites like "Believe" and "eX Dream." It was a blast. ^_^ (No, I didn't let my Puchi Sol sing "Flash" or "Bohemian Rhapsody despite much begging.)

I got home Sat morning at about 3am, and had to get up at 7:30am where I found it ironic that I woke up in time for Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (the live action thing). I headed down to the JR Nara station where my friends said they would be meeting me, but they weren't there. I have a feeling they had somehow ended up at the Kintetsu Nara station. >( Boo on them. So I went to Nara for nothing.

Since it was still early when I got back to Umeda Station, I figured I would wander around and try to find the Mandarake. It failed, because I thought it was underground in the huge Umeda mall-thing. Nevertheless, I still found two anime/manga stores. "Tora no ana" and "Comic Land," the latter of which is a division of Book 1st.

Then I got home, bummed around, read a some manga (One Piece and Tsubasa), watched some anime (so it turns out that I do get anime at my place, only it's on Saturday afternoons, and it was just Gundam SEED and HagaRen/FMA, which I didn't find particularly impressive).

Read some metric buttloads of One Piece, fantasized about doing an Ener cosplay (that would totally rock! :D), and then went to bed. ^^;;

Oh yeah, and over the past 3 days I have killed so many flies. There are these tiny little flies always in my room, I think they come through the air conditioning vent. >( Boo. I swear I've killed like 20 or 30 of them already. =_=;; Four of which were copulating at the time I smashed them. *big sweatdrop*

I'm going to go insane if I have to kill any more flies. I offed three already this morning. *sighs* I'm killing flies like Hitler killed the --

Okay, you can fill in the missing word there. I stopped myself before I really made another analogy in bad taste. This time in REALLY BAD TASTE. Oh well. I have never been a particularly politically correct or sensitive fuckhead anyway.

At any rate, I have things to do:

1. Kill my friends who told me to go to the wrong Nara station
2. Go find the Umeda Mandarake
3. Finish volume 30 and 31 of One Piece
4. Finish volume 4 of Tsubasa
5. Go revisit my doujinshi (they're lonely)
6. Finish my crack (aka. milk tea)
7. Figure out how to buy an international calling card here in Japan so I can call the parental units and the lovely girlfriend. ^_^

Ciao. :D

Fai is so with Kurogane. Or at least, he wants to be.
*fangirl squeal*

I guess eventually the rabid otakuness would manifest itself. :3 From the start my lab mates already knew I liked anime and manga, being that I told them I wanted to go to Den Den Town in order to survey the wonders of anime/manga merchandising. ^_^ They also know I play lots of videogames. :x

So the inevitable was asked...have I heard of Comiket? >_> Hell yeah. XD I told my labmates I was going with my friends. And then they asked if I cosplayed, and I told them I did, but all my costumes were at home. >_>

So yeah...I ended up showing them pictures of cosplay happiness. XD Now they all know what a hopeless anime freak I am.

WAI! ^_^v American Otaku Pride. :D

Now I miss y'all back home in the States who get to go to Otakon this year. >( Grr grr grrr. I want to go to Otakon. *sniffles* ;______; Where there are plenty of otaku and cosplay goodness to be had.

I guess I'll just have to wait until comiket...(I really want to cosplay Luffy. *sniffles* I wonder if I can get someone from home to send my costume here... >_> Hmmm....*ponders*

Can't wait for AniBos 2005 either. (Argh, they moved it back until May, so I won't get any con goodness at all during the school year. *sob*) Where Ali-chan and I get to ninja in the night. :D

...
...
no, that's not a euphemism for sex.

...
...
or is it?

cell phone~

| | Comments (2)

Skuld has a cell phone here in Japan! I've posted it friends locked in my livejournal, but if you're not on LJ, feel free to drop me an e-mail and ask me for it.

Also, I'm able to send messages to other peoples' e-mails and you guys are able to text message me. :3 Once more, drop me and e-mail if you want to know what it is, as I don't I'll post it on a public place like my blog. >_> You never know what nasty spam bots might be lying around. :3

Anyhoo, gonna head off this weekend to hang with Mingyan, Sam, and Kalvin from MIT! Yay, familiar faces! Sam is also a riot and a half, so I'm really looking forward to it. He and Kalvin are also going to be temple-hopping for shuuin this weekend as well, so I might be gone two days in a row. *gasp*

Oh yeah, nomikai tonight. XD Let's see how much alcohol my labmates can put away. ^_^

=_=

| | Comments (1)

Spent about 13 hours in lab yesterday. >_> How I passed the time I have no idea. I have come to the conclusion that my lab, or at least my project is extremely unefficient. :x Not that I really mind, since it gives me more time to bum around doing no work and chat online with peeps. Always makes me feel bad when my professor walks in the room though, and I have like 3 IM windows open. >_>

*sigh*

I was so tired by the time I got home yesterday night that I only did a little bit of writing (so stuck on SolxKy, not entirely sure how to do this hot s3xx0rs think that Roni asked for) and a little bit of reading. @_@ Ooh, so tired. Gonna try to get a cell phone so I can stay in touch with my MIT peeps here in Japan. :3 Maybe I'll head out now to go do that. >_> Not like there's much going on here since Yoshiya-san and Miwa-san haven't come yet, and not like Fujita-sensei will miss me. :x

On the subject of dreams, I had two major dreams last night:

1) Seeing Roni and cuddling in the bathtub
2) Naruto and Sasuke cosplay with Ali-chan. XD She's the cutest Naruto I know. <3

Anyhoo...maybe update with a cellphone number on my LJ if I end up getting one. :3

Skuld spent most of the afternoon crawling about the ceiling. ^_^ It feels like hacking at MIT again. @_@ Too bad I didn't have a marker or I would have definitely signed myself in. *laughs*

I miss MIT a lot right now, apparently interesting things are happening back at home in Fenway House that I'm not privy too. (Like Catherine cutting off thet top part of her finger while making chili. @_@)

Well, if things are any indication here, the level creativity here in Japan is very high. In other words, I am churning out fanfic like a Mormon woman churns out babies. XD (Okay, that was an analogy in very bad taste. :x)

Up to 3,800 words on Chapter Three of my Legato fic, and I think I might be ready to put out Chapter Two of my Naruto fic if my other beta ever gets back to me. (poke Destra) Might try to churn out some Sol fic tonight (or actually read! *gasp*) or see if I can finish up the Chapter Threes of Naruto and/or Legato. =_= Damn, I never though I had so many things just sitting around. @_@

*workworkwork*

Anyhoo...
yeah, that's my update of the day. :3 Crawling around ceilings is fun. I want to do it some more, mommy! ^_^

One Piece slaughter

| | Comments (5)

4Kids has lisenced One Piece.
=_= and they want to put it on Fox.
Given Fox's current record...

I think I'm going to go and throw up in the corner now.
And then start crying. :_________:

Puchi Skuld cries.

hankering for PS2

| | Comments (1)

Holy Puchi, Batman!

Nothing much is going on lab-wise around here...operating on monkey is...very interesting to watch. Poor monkeys. ;_; They're bleeding everywhere and they won't stop. Dou shiyou...

Anyways, I didn't do much last night except for write...and write...and write.
I managed to get Chapter Two my Naruto fic finished (rough draft of course), and I'm already halfway through (3,700) words into the third. :3 I'm so proud of myself. Go me. XD

I want to go to Den Den Town tonight, but it's nasty and rainy outside, and I think I should save my money for whatever's supposed to be happening this weekend. Temple hopping with Sam and Kalvin maybe, and we might even hit an amusement park. Yoshaa~~

I am so tempted to buy a PS2 and GGXX #Reload. (Must work on GGXX skillz! XD) ;____; Those Sakura colored ones are really pretty. >_> Must persevere...must persevere...the loneliness of my GGXX arcade stick is not calling to me. ;_; It's not. I will resist the urge to play with my brand-spanking-new arcade stick because I have no PS2. Must resist...must resist...

O_O *murk*

Puchipuchi Skuld is putzing around in lab. Reading some papers in order to get caught up on things. ^_^ Didn't do much yesterday, just a little bit of wandering around the area. Found a small supermarket kind of far away, I figure it would better serve to wander around the Ishibashi area where the concentration of shops is higher and the place seems much less residential.

Still surviving off the stuff I buy in supermarkets, which honestly isn't all that bad. :3 It gives me time to sit around my room and write.
And write I have been doing.

Just finished the rough draft of the second chapter of my Naruto/Sasuke fic, "The Art of Life." The first chapter has so far been released only on my drabbles/writing journal. I like the way the fic is shaping up so far, but you know, writing requires inspiration, and perhaps some meticulous planning. (Though all of chapter two was spontaneous, I swear.)

At any rate, go enjoy chapter one, and hopefully chapter two will be forthcoming in a couple of days. ^_^

...and now, off to finish reading more papers for lab.

PUCHIPUCHI! ^_^

Pictures!

| | Comments (1)

Finally got off my lazy ass and did some...*dun dun*
Pictures!

Tada!

Here you go!

Day One: Here's a small picture of the Pokemon plane I rode from Tokyo to Osaka. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a picture of the rest of the plane. Gomen gomen! :3

Here are some pictures of my room. It's rather small. It's like a tiny-sized hotel room, basically. Which wouldn't be so bad if it didn't totally lack storage space. ;_; Here's the view from the hall, and the view of the bed and the window. Very small, but it's doable as long as there is doujinshi to entertain me. (Actually, I just need a bed for that. :P)

So I went to the Osaka Aquarium last night, and I took some pictures. :3

Jellyfish: one | two | three

Regular fishies: one | two

Huzzah.

and now to finish off the picture, I present you....CRACK!

...no actually, it's not crack, it's just Puchipuchi Guilty by Bombers. (I actually think Bombers may be the what the circle Wolfgung used to be, but I could be wrong. :x)

So here's Sol in a hole and Sol crying.

OH MY GOD, it's so cute. :3 t3h crack, I'm telling you, t3h crack. :3
*bouncing off the walls all puchibi-style*

(Oh, puchi = japanization of "petit." Hence my use of "puchibi." :3)

Someone stop me. @______@
Someone tie me down or fix me with one of those collars that zaps me when I get too close to Den Den Town.

So it's Saturday, and I went off exploring Osaka once more. I went to the Kaiyukan (aquarium) which was actually quite fun, and then I headed off to Den Den Town once again. Uhm, big mistake there. As apparently Mandarake restocks their doujinshi everyday. Also hit the Animate. I have NO idea how I managed to miss it yesterday, as it is only a little over a block away from the Mandarake, but somehow it happened. I'm blind, what can I say?

THE LOOT:

3 Guilty Gear doujinshi (all humor/gag, including Puchipuchi Guilty by Bombers, which is this cute little doujin where everyone is super-deformed, and Ky, Anji, Axl, and Chipp try to pull Sol out of a hole because his head is so big he got stuck... Don't ask until you see it.)

3 Trigun doujinshi (all Shayoukan, thank god I don't have to worry about spending too much money there, as all I'm ever looking for is Shayoukan and Knives/Legato. But since Knives/Legato doesn't exist... >_>)

2 present things for Ali-chan (not telling what they are)

1 present thing for Destra (not telling what it is either)

1 Princess Tutu capsule figure (these are incredibly well made. Holy crap. They're one of the best capsule figures I've ever seen. Now I have to find that machine again and buy the entire set. @______@ ... or just see if I can find them at a capsule figure store. *big sweatdrop*)

1 Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles shitajiki (Fai! Fai! *lurve* ...or however it is you actually are supposed to spell his name.)

1 Sasuke handtowel (tenugui - I don't see why they called it a hand towel, because it's obviously not fluffy like towels, and resembles more something I'd hang on my door or on my wall. >_> ... whatever.)

Anyhoo, the next time I visit Den Den Town (god forbid I get the stupid idea in my head that I need a Japanese PS2 and Guilty Gear XX #Reload) , I will be searching for FFX doujinshi for Amberlee.

If anyone else wants to be added to the "please look for doujinshi for me, Skuld" list, drop me a line via e-mail. Payment by Paypal is preferred. (Except for Roni and Amberlee, who are welcome to send care packages in return for doujinshi. ^_^ Dammit, I left the slip of paper with my address on it in my room again! Blargle!)

I may make another trip tomorrow. Because...I'm obsessive. >_> Please e-mail me with the series, pairing, and how many you'd like. Most doujin go between 200 and 400 yen. I don't have any quotes for shipping costs yet, but I will soon. It depends on how much doujinshi you want, and how fast you want it. ^_^ Oh, and I am NOT going into the hentai section. >_> There are scary men there. @_@ (and tentacles! ;_;)

...and yeah, NOW I'm worried about spending too much money. =_=;; *save save save* (because you know, it's NOT my money I'm spending right now. Thank you, MIT, for giving me a huge-ass living stipend. ^^;; Cause I, uh...can't live without doujinshi, y'know?)

Okay, so there actually wasn't much of a Daibouken (Big Adventure) to be found in Den Den Town, but there certain were large game stores and I ran into (literally) the Mandarake.

THE LOOT:
5 Final Fantasy 7 doujinshi(including Cinderella Boy, which I've been looking for forever and is now my favorite Seph/Cloud EVAR, and the Sephiemon [it's like Doraemon...except it's Sephiemon], as well as Time Limit by Astroboys. Oh, I am rolling around in joy.)

2 Final Fantasy 8 doujinshi (all SeiferxZell by Crushers, another one of my favorite circles ever.)

1 Final Fantasy 9 doujinshi (It was just too pretty to pass up.)

4 Naruto doujinshi (Managed to grab a KakaNaru when I was going for a SasuNaru...whoopsies. Anybody want it?)

3 One Piece doujinshi (I hate to say the ZoroSan shelf was much larger than the ZoroLu shelf. Grrr! *shakes fist at ZoroSan fans*)

3 Guilty Gear doujinshi (one gag, one sorta SolxKy, one the-most-pretty-SolxKy-Skuld's-ever-seen. *drool* Unfortunately, that was pretty much the extent of the GG section. ...it was 4 books. While the KOF section spanned several shelves. Grrrr. Grrr, I say.)

1 Guilty Gear XX Custom Arcade Stick Booyeah, babies! Brand spankin' new. Yeah, I could've gotten it for cheaper used...but the Frederick/Sol muse wanted one new, so I had to satisfy him. (I suspect he just wanted it because he could add the word 'spanking' in there somewhere. Cause you know, 'brand spanking old' or 'brand spanking used' just doesn't have the same ring to it.)

IN OTHER WORDS...
Holy fucking shit, I blew over 10,000 yen today.
>_> I really should curb this habit of mine.
Heh, wait till I get to Tokyo. =_=;; Oh my god.
(And I saw One Piece shirts! One Piece T-shirts! For 3000 yen! How will I ever resist the next time I go?)
And dude, I didn't even hit the Animate store. (Couldn't find it...next time I'll have to look at a map so I know exactly where it is.) I fear what the Animate store will do to my living stipend. *falls over*

So what Chiko was saying about us in Japan was true. =_= I am spending less than $10 on food, and more than $100 on stuff. Something is really not right here.

And I have the weekend coming up. What am I going to do in Japan for a whole weekend? O_O I see more money-spending on the horizon. YARGH!

Time differences suck

| | Comments (4)

You want to know what sucks about huge time differences? The fact that it's now 4pm, there's not much left for me to do, and over there in the states it's in the wee small hours of the morning.

Goddammit! Now that I finally have time to talk to someone... =_=;;

*sobs*

I guess it's time for yet another "Skuld no Osaka no DAIBOUKEN!"

...or something like that. :x At least I'm not worried about spending too much money. >_> Yet.

Osaka's Downtown

| | Comments (2)

Got a tour of the lab today. Fujita-sensei does mostly visual science, and he's predominantly studying V1 and V4 in monkeys. I've never worked with monkeys before, so hopefully I'll get to have a little bit of interaction with them, at least.

(Shhh, don't tell PETA.)

Anyways, spent most of the morning and afternoon in lab, getting a tour and discussing stuff with Fujita-sensei. Still not sure which group of grad students I'll be joining up with, but the biological thing that Yoshiya and Mikio are working on look interesting. Yeah, you probably have no idea what I'm talking about but...

*sigh* Grrr, there's a firewall here in lab, so I can't Torrent anything, and regular AIM won't work. (I have to use AIM Express. Bleh.) I probably won't be online much, but you know, at least being able to Torrent stuff would be nice. ;_; So in the evenings when I go home I can sit around and watch stuff before I have to go to bed. This summer thing is so totally fucking with my internal clock. I have to be in lab mornings at 9:30am. =_=;; Blar. That means bed at midnight for me. -_-;; Oh well, not like I was really doing anything anyway, since there is no net access in my room. >_> I guess I could e-mail my buddies and leech off their FTP servers because Torrent isn't working. Hmmm...the possibilites.

Anyways, I hit Osaka's downtown today, it's fairly easy to reach via Ishibashi station which I am next to. Won a cute little Sasuke keychain via a UFO catcher, but really really failed getting a huge Luffy plushie (I ALMOST HAD HIM! ALMOST!) after dropping 700 yen. Blar. Obviously Sasuke loves me and Luffy doesn't. *sob* And I swear I make a better Luffy than Sasuke too. *sob some more* Found the massive amounts of arcades in the Umeda area, including a GGXX #Reload machine, but did not dare to sit down and play because 1) I suck and 2) It's 100 yen a game. =_=;; You've got to be shitting me. I don't even like paying 50 cents at the MIT student center. (It's worth it for DDR, but for GGXX? I dunno... >_> Call me po'.)

Obviously still looking for someone 1337 in Japan to pass their GGXX/DDR skillz onto me...please please please let someone come. ^^;; Oh, and HEP Five blows. It's just 7 floors of posh clothing stores and one arcade. >_> Boo. Fashion is boring. Now where was Mandarake, Book Off, and Animate supposed to be? I wish I could remember.

Damn, these Japanese grad students live in lab. I swear. >_> It's 10pm, and more than a quarter of the lab is still here. <_< >_> Makes me feel like a total slacker, just sitting here and using the internet. =_=

Ergh, getting tired, so I'm gonna take off for the night. See you guys in the morning/evening. ^_^/~~~ bai bai.

Japan: Day 1

| | Comments (1)

I have no idea where all the time went. Seriously. I left the house on Tuesday at 5am, and somehow when I head into lab tomorrow, it’ll be Thursday. Okay, so I definitely lost about 13 hours crossing the date line, but it didn’t seem that much. Probably because I was totally out for most of the flight.

So here’s the story of Skuld’s travel!

My first flight was from Boston to Washington Dulles, and that was mostly uneventful because I konked out. The plane took off, and by the time I woke up, we were landing. Those are best flights of all: the ones you don’t remember because you were asleep. Met an MIT alum who was sitting next to me, and we reminisced about Steer Roast before I went to sleep.

I had a three and a half hour layover in Dulles, but that once more didn’t seem so long thanks to the wonder of sleep. Go sleep. So I got on the plane to Tokyo’s Narita airport (courtesy of All Nippon Airlines) and found that ANA totally rules. Good food, good service, good entertainment, what more could I ask for? So they all these Super Nintendo games, and I was very surprised to see that Super Mario All Stars and Street Fighter II were there. Unfortunately, they only served to remind of how good I used to be, and how much I suck now. I tried, I failed, and then I went back to sleep. The flight was supposed to be 14 hours, but I think I missed over half of it due to sleep. Rock. I’ve gotten so much sleep these past couple (?) of days, and as I sit here in my room, I’m totally ready to pass out again.

So on the layover from Narita (I keep typing “Naruto.” I just can’t help myself.) I met Emily from Carnegie Mellon University, who was going to Osaka to start a summer architecture program her university was running. Funny how the only two kids from American universities somehow manage to meet up in the line for customs. It was cool. She was really nice, even though she didn’t speak a word of Japanese. I’m at least glad I managed to pass as a nihonjin when I wasn’t giving people blank looks. (Okay, how the hell am I supposed to know the words for “customs declaration” and “boarding pass?”)

The flight to Osaka was uneventful, as once more, I slept through it. (See a pattern here?) I arrived and was picked up by my professor and Hiroshi-san from my lab (There’s another Hiroshi-san too…how am I going to tell them apart in my blogging?!), dropped my stuff off in my room, and then went off to dinner. Fujita-sensei’s lab is huge. At least 20 people, grad students all. Daaaaamn! That’s a lot of people. Over an udon dinner I talked to my various labmates about what sort of research we did, and of course…video games. XD Yoshiya-san is hurt that I like FFVI over FFVII. Well, VII has Sephiroth but we know that VI will forever rule all. ^_^

Anyways more later, because I'm sitting here in lab right now.

off to Japan!

| | Comments (3)

Off to Japan for the entire summer my friends! I've had a wonderful academic year, and even though I'm supposed to be working in Japan, I'm sure I'll have time to kick back, take pictures, and blog.

And write and read, of course, which are my favorite activities when I am exhausted. All updates will be here, as well as pictures. ^_^ Don't know how often I'll be able to do anything, but there will be a full and very awesome account of the trip eventually!

Now...first leg of the trip is to survive my 24 hour flight... (I have two layovers at Washington and Narita. *bleh*)
