I just got spam in my Movable Type comments from "peeing women." Oh intarnuts, how I love you when you give me links to water sports. Do me a favor and throw some water polo in there next time.
I'm in a particularly LiveJournal-hating mood at the moment, much to my dismay. I think it's because I'm sitting here checking my friends list, and seeing a lot of LAMEASS posts on my LJ communities. Some better than others, but at the moment Death Note is the worst.
Okay, Death Note is wildly popular at the moment. That's great. I like Death Note. I think Death Note is wonderfully executed, wonderfully drawn, and wonderfully written. I'm glad Death Note is widely appreciated, because it's nice to know that I'm not the only on crack about some of the really good series out there. (hint: you guys should start reading/watching One Piece and Gungrave before I KEEL YOU GOOD.)
The problem inherent in things like large fandoms is that large fandoms inevitably draw large amounts of people. Assuming that 99.9% of the world is stupid and assuming that 99.89% of anime fans are stupid, that means that in any given fandom, I'll probably run into 99.89% percent stupid people. That's perfectly fine for small fandoms, as I can take stupidity in small numbers. It's when I get into big fandoms that I really get annoyed. I HATE IT when people go on LJ Comms and post newbie introduction posts like, "hey guyz, lol, i just read daeth note and I tink its teh coolest evar! L is so kewl. plz be nice to me i'm a stoopid n00b. baibai." I can't fucking stand it. NOBODY GIVES A FLYING FUCK if you just read Death Note, and nobody cares about your STUPID NEWBIE POST. Most pointless post ever. If you've got something to say on the LJ comm, at least make it intelligent.
Another problem I have with people on the internet is that they think they're smarter than they really are. Granted, I probably think I'm smarter than I really am, but nobody's really going to argue with me because I can say, "I'm getting a B.S. from the Massa-fucking-chusetts Institute of Technology. Go fuck yourself." and most of the time (let's say...oh...75%? which is a lot higher than the norm of 10%) I think about my posts before I make them. I also DO SOME RESEARCH. I can't stand the Death Note comm because everybody on there thinks they're a Death Note expert, and we have wild theories running around on why L is so fidgety, and ZOMG! This obviously means he's got autism! Let me post this theory around the entire interbutt!
I will not go into the details here of why L actually isn't autistic (it has to do with the fact that he's missing the most obvious symptoms of autism). That's besides the point. (Ada recently pointed out to me that L probably has a hyperthyroidism, which if anybody knows anything about endocrinology, is actually very likely; though that says nothing about his behavior.) The point is, DO YOUR FUCKING RESEARCH before you put on your "I am so S-M-R-T" hat. Thank you.
Lastly, there is someone on the DN comm that draws my ire especially because she keeps on posting, "ZOMG, this person looks like L, let me show you pictures!" and all you're seeing is some Asian dude with black hair and a "deer in the headlights" look. Seriously, this isn't anything special. You could probably get anybody with black hair to look like L if you just told them to stare at you really hard. And guess what... NOBODY CARES! So stop post whoring.
To all the people who are posting funnies on the DN comm, thank you. You brighten up my day. I can't stand people who take themselves too seriously. It makes me want to photoshop pictures of L and Raito going, "AAAAIIIIIIRRRRRRR" or "KILL IT WITH DEATH NOTE!"*
So remember kids, the moral of this rather vitriolic rant is:
"Everytime you post on death_note, Kira kills a kitten. Please, think of the kittens.
Now I retreat in the haven of pulp-culture awesomeness known simply as /b/.
* - memes in /b/. the "AIIIIRRRR" meme is a joking reference to Ahnold's scene in "Total Recall" where his eyes bug out as he's gasping for "AAAAIIIIIRRR!" The "Kill it with _____" meme was originally started by the anti-furry clan of /b/ in retaliation to Furry Friday. "KILL IT WITH FIRE" was the original, and now people have been inserting various amusing nouns in place of fire, most recently "boomstick."
