Stephen Colbert's gay jokes never, ever fail to amuse me.
Also, if he were to ever actually be on the covers of bad Harlequin romance novels, I'd totally buy them.

Urgh...at home sick today. Sick, sick, sick. I've felt pukey and nauseated all day, but I can't figure out why. No fever, and it probably isn't hypoglycemia. =___= I just hope I feel better in the morning tomorrow. :( *frown*
Anyways, the point of this post isn't to whine about how shitty I feel, the point of this post is to go, WHAT?! Bioware put in the lesbian kiss scene in Jade Empire and not the gay one?! >____< How can you do one and not the other?
WHY? WHYYYYYYYYYYYY?
No pics yet, folks, but until I get home, you guys can have some thoughts about the season 3 finale of Battlestar Galactica.
Holy shit was that Vegas trip awesome or what. XD Good times, hella good times. Good drinking, good company, just awesome all around.
I took lots of pictures, so photos will be coming up soon.
And last, a shoutout to that MIT '88 Course 7 alum who tossed me a $25 chip at the Craps table and told me to roll, which ended up with me walking away with $125 (having invested a grand total of $0). I'm sure he made much more off of my beginner's luck rolls, but you know, $125 is a lot when you're a graduate student. Hurrah, rich MIT alums. :3 Thanks, dude.
Neuroanatomy grade: A-
w0000t! I was so scared I was going to fail it again cause I didn't do as well on the final as I was expecting, but man. Was I scraping the bottom of that A- or what, with my 89.8%. But you know, an A- is an A- is an A-. :3 GO ME! *cheers wildly*
Party this evening at Dr. Scheibel's place. He is such an awesome old man, makes a lot of sexual innuendo during class, but he's such a distinguished guy that you can help but go, "Wow, he's been around since neuroscience started, seriously." And he never comes off as dirty either. Yaaay, partying with professors. X3
That said, OSU almost gave me a heart attack last night. I had them going into the Final Four, so losing in the Sweet 16 would've totally screwed up my bracket. =__= *phew* Exciting game, but I prefer more score padding, like what UCLA offered me last night.
In reference to this previous entry, I think most of Jeremy's computer issues were fixed by reformatting and reinstalling XP. His previous copy was installed when he had the faulty RAM, so that's probably what ended up slowing his system and causing all those glitches. *phew* Hopefully this will solve everything.
That said, I'm heading to Vegas this weekend with Jeremy, Kai, and Marcus. :D Haven't been roadtripping for a while, so I'm now totally craving it with the friends. This will either be a really, really good trip, or a really, really bad trip. ¬_¬ I'm praying for the former and not the latter.
There is just something inherently hilarious in an article titled "The Great American Reach Around Begins." Maybe there's something about reach arounds that make me burst into giggles. Because I am twelve years old.
Also on Something Awful, The Awkwardness Survival Guide isn't too bad.
Lastly, my life here in lab has turned pretty sad because I'm unable to churn out 500 words for the introduction to my paper, but last night I was perfectly fine staying up until 3:30am churning out 1,200 words of Ming/Sky pr0n. ...and I haven't even gotten to the pr0n bits yet. ¬_¬ If only the brain and the spinal cord were gendered and slashable, maybe I'd be more productive.
EDIT: 7 of the most recent 15 posts I've made here in my blog reference Jade Empire, or slashy elements thereof. ...there is no cure, is there?
This is a cry for help directed to all you guys who are more computer savvy than me.
About 6 weeks ago I built a new computer for my roommate. The RAM we got was faulty, so he returned it for another one, which we think might be okay except the fact that his computer, for as long as he can tell, it has had the following problems.
- unable to run multiple programs without being very slow, but can run one single processing- and graphics-intensive program (ie: Jade Empire).
- USB mouse cursor icon freezes on screen but can still be moved and clicked to open/close programs
- sometimes DVD drive won't open until computer is restarted
- uTorrent freezes when it gets up to 300kpbs
- Firefox crashes with multiple tabs open
SPECS:
Mobo: ECS Elitegroup 945P-A
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 531+ (3GHz, 800MHz FSB, 1MB L2 cache)
RAM: Kingston PC-6400, 800MHz DDR2, 1GB
Graphics: EVGA GeForce 7600GT
I think it might be a motherboard problem. What do you guys think?
DISCUSS.
Boy is my LJ feed going to spam you all when it finally gets fixed. I am so drunk right now that when I stare at light, I can feel my occipital lobe throbbing. I think I can also feel my dura mater.
Owwwwww...
EDIT: I think my feed works now. *crosses fingers*
EDIT2: Okay, feed works now, as all you LJ people can tell from my 15 most recent entries spamming you guys like hell. Apologies for the downtime and the subsequent spamming. :x *hides* It won't happen until the next time the feed goes down, which hopefully won't be for a while. :3 Feel free to scroll past old feed entires.
Some kickass person on the official BioWare Jade Empire forums pointed me to another thread that has transcripts of all the character epilogues. (Spoilers ahoy!)
After reading through them all, I'm absolutely convinced that Closed Fist is by far the best ending (like KotOR, the better ending was definitely the Dark Side ending), and especially the bits about the 3 variations of CF Sky's fate are FAN FUCKING TASTIC. I am filled with squee. And distraction from neuroanatomy. It'll be a long night, folks. :3
Once in a while a really good episode of Battlestar Galactica pops up and I remember why I started watching this show in the first place. I am also periodically reminded as I slog through Babylon 5 episodes (ugh writing, ugh characters, ugh plot devices, ugh one liners), but that's beside the point.
The point is: tonight's episode was actually very well done. I like the developments they're setting up, I like the character they've introduced for this arc, and all it seems that BSG is lacking in (besides more screentime for Caprica!Six and Athena) is pacing. I fear it's going to be another one of those shows where the pacing is terrible but the season closers are asskicking. Things could be, and frequently are, worse.
I am also fundamentally opposed to the idea of them revealing more than one of the Final Five this season. Okay, maybe they can reveal two, but any more than that and I'm going to be annoyed. The cylons really don't have a plan, do they?
While I haven't been studying today, I've been fiddling around a bit with the newly installed Moveable Type version 3 on this server (thanks to Cocoa), watching college basketball, and failing to resist the temptation of Jade Empire.
You may have noticed that the layout's changed here at the real blog, I felt it was time to look into my graphic design principles by pinching someone else's design. I may have to reinvent my design aesthetic, it's been far too same-ish for a while.
I have the neuroanatomy final on Monday, then maybe I'll have some time to fiddle around with a shiny, new MT3. And play some close-fisted Jade Empire, which I will probably blog about copiously. Here's to Haz, my JE sister-in-arms.
Beat Jade Empire yesterday. (And stayed up until 4am writing Ming/Sky slash. No, it's not done yet.) I didn't do all the sidequests cause I was obviously trying to get through it ASAP so I could study Neuroanatomy in peace. :3 Yay for romancing Sky and running off together and having adventures. ¬_¬ Butt pirates, anybody?
Given that my computer blows, I think I'll try to hold off playing more Jade Empire until after I get a new, swanky computer sometime in Q2.
So here's a question for y'all who've played the game more than me:
If you're a Closed Fist male PC, and you romance a CF Sky, do you end up ruling together or does Sky become Death's Hand? o_o Sky as Death's Hand... ... *keyboard fills with drool*
Having read through some of the ending options of CF, I have to say it sounds hella more interesting than the Open Palm ending. :3 I always knew being evil was more fun.
:( Goddammit, I hate it when your own blog pops up as the first entry on Google searches for things like "Jade Empire yaoi."
This is probably a sign that I should get my ass working on that Ming/Sky I've been planning. I'm workin' on it! I'm workin' on it! Really! Just wait until neuroanatomy is over!
Made it into the 20 for Acen Idol. w00000t. Get ready to rap, ACen, The Skuldness is going to bring it.
...I'm actually at an academic spinal cord injury conference right now...so...more on that later. *crosses fingers*
Ciao, my babies.
And now, part 3 of the Skuld is really, really slow series.
Only after playing through the Sir Roderick scene in Jade Empire for the third time did I go...wuuuuh? THAT'S JOHN CLEESE!
Along similar lines, Jade Empire also provides me the opportunity to go:
...wuuuh? That's Armin Shimerman!
and
...wuuuh? That was Nathan Fillion? >:o What a waste of a perfectly good Nathan Fillion!
And before I go off to write my paper in lab and study for my upcoming neuroanatomy exam on Monday... ... I should really stop fantasizing about Ming/Sky. :x
A graphical illustration of the meaning of *headdesk*
For those of you wondering, yes, that is my desk and my lab bench off to the left.
*reads previous post*
I'm going to die alone, aren't I?
AAAARRRGGGHHHHH!!!
I think I've just wasted the past eight or so hours of my life! I have to redo them over again! *sobbing, so much sobbing* I'm trying to romance Sky in Jade Empire (as Furious Ming) and Sky is proving himself to be annoyingly unromantic! I've tried ditching all the rest of the girls to the best of my ability and Sky is so far completely unresponsive to my overtures of mansex.
GOD FUCKING DAMMIT! I think I'm doing this wrong. Totally time to try doing this again.
EDIT: okay, I figured it out. You have to dump Silk Fox before you have the Eternal Companions conversation with Sky. =___= And then I think it's pretty much smooth sailing from there. Grrr. *grumbles* 8 hours of my life. 8 hours of my life I have to do over again. Goddammit. God fucking dammit. I realize the fade-out before the kissing is totally not going to be worth it, but hey. When I've got goals, I go for them.
I like how it implies that Arby's is a level below hell. -Q10
Just got back from 300, and a lengthy discussion of the movie in the parking lot outside the movie theatre. The entire film can mostly be summed up with the following paragraph:
think of the children!, gay jokes, THIS IS SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, ass, boobs, ass, Gerard Butler's pert shiny ass, boobs, ewwww het, OMG I THINK HE PUT IT IN HER POOPER, dicks, pecs, ass, pecs, ZOMFG THAT KICKS ASS, pecs, sensual backrubs, Mr. Clean if he were a drag queen, kneel before me and suck it out of a hose, asskicking, some people die, politics blah blah don't care, Hello? Hell Restaurant?, dicks, pecs, asskicking again, Gerard Butler is really hot, some computer graphics, ...and...credits.
I mean, seriously. Is this movie really missing anything? Contrary to most snobby critics who have no appreciation for anything listed above, they probably should've cut out some plot, dialogue, and characterization from the movie, inserted more buttseks (quite literally!) and asskicking and more wind to sweep up the cloaks of the Spartans so I can see if their leather speedos are more the G-string type or the hotpants type.
In other words, I feel really, really straight right now, and I think all the straight guys I went to the movie with now feel really, really gay. The fact that one guy referred to his girlfriend as his "boyfriend" means the movie might've pushed him over the deep end. Gerard Butler has risen a couple of rungs on the ladder of male hotness, and I now feel that I have the prerogative to run around randomly yelling "THIS IS SPARTAAA!" and kicking things.
EDIT: After reading some scathing reviews (I've discovered that the New York Times likes to be scathing just for scathing's sake) of 300, I have this to say despite having not seen the film yet:
300 set out to do two things:
1) hot Spartan ass, and
2) epic ass kicking.
In short, both of the original aims of 300 involve quite a bit of ass. If 300 achieves the prettiness of #1, with the badassness of #2, I don't care if the script feels like a "comic book" or "it's message is less subtle than a Pokemon cartoon." It's about the ASS. As long as it fulfills those conditions, A+, says I.
I love my taichi teacher. :3 He feels like a more asskicking version of my father, which is actually kind of cool. He's an old Chinese man, so he's starting to grow the scary long eyebrows. Lacks the beard, but that's okay. His Chen-style taichi is pretty badass.

Oh, here's a fun mathy question for you math kids to work out. I know people like Big Hentai Mike might be inclined to sit around and work this one out:
Let's take a clock, and flatten the hands down to the very back of it, so that the hour and minute hands can hold water between them.
Your question is: what time would it have to be to hold a maximum volume/area of water between the two hands?
Assume: gravity is downward (toward six o'clock) and that neither the hour hand nor the minute hand stretch all the way to the edges of the clock
Constraint:
1) The hour and minute hands must move relative to each other in typical clock fashion
Thanks to Jeremy for this question. Apparently, his brain thinks very mathy things at 1am.
Phew. If Anime Expo were any later this year, I probably wouldn't be able to go. @_____@ The con is from June 29-July 2 (July 2 is a Monday) and the Spinal Cord Injury class I want to take (which I have to be at full time, including weekends) starts on that same Monday and goes until July 20th.
I guess it'll just be a Friday-Sunday con for me, which is perfectly fine because 3 days of conventioning is about all I can handle anyway. XD
And, the last Harry Potter book comes out on the 21st.
Guess everything works out. :3 Yip-ha.
Anybody else in the LA area up for catching "300" either on Thursday night or Friday? o_O That movie looks soooo pretty. So, so, so, so pretty and I hope I'm not the only who thinks so.
:( I fail at today because I spilled paraformaldehyde all over my jeans and my leg. Those were my favorite jeans, and that was my favorite leg! ;_;
o_O Apparently the lead singer of Bad Religion, Greg Graffin, is teaching Life Science I here at UCLA. Dude, the term is almost over and you guys are telling me this now?! I'm going to have to go sit in on a lecture or something. That's pretty damn awesome.
Also, I had a horrible nightmare last night that UCLA lost its game tonight and dropped down to #5. Good thing my dreams aren't prophetic.
There's some humor in the world, somewhere, that says my NRSA has to be due on Friday, April 13.
Time to start working ass off. Now.
This also makes me aware of just how close Celebration IV is, which means I'll have to:
1) shop for fabric
2) get myself a lightsaber that isn't plastic
3) beat Jade Empire so I can get my life back
