I think after my recent Jade Empire binge maybe I should lay off for a while. @_@ But the lesbians are calling me...and far be it for me to resist the siren song of lesbians. :D
Anyways, I finished screencapping the Sky/male PC kiss for Lu the Prodigy, Creamy Nougat Tiger Shen, and Monk Zeng. X3 They're all here.

EDIT: I forgot to add that unlike my original guess, the pre-rendered cut scenes actually do have Ming in them, even after the hack. Interesting little glitches that popped up were at the beginning, just after Master Li explodes the Lotus Assassin boat on the beach, the townsfolk described Ming the way they would've described Wu. Interestingly though, when I got to the Imperial City and the guards were going by the description of the Scourge of the South, they described Ming's physical characteristics. Huh. I guess certain events access the "appearance" attributes (which were Ming) as opposed to the "player" (Wu the Lotus Blossom) attributes, but by and large most of the dialogue and the romance is dependent on the "player." Good to know.
You know, my class never really like her all that much, but to find out that she's resigned because she lied about her credentials on her resume?

This is what I've spent the last three hours of my life compiling. Dear god, what's happened to me?
Just a general holler to my reader list, who's planning on attending Anime Expo this summer?
I'm asking because I need crash space for Friday night only (I will only be attending the con on Friday and Saturday due to commitments that I have on Sunday and Monday), and that makes me a notoriously bad candidate to get a room for myself.
So if anybody's willing to house a homeless Skuld-in-Long-Beach for a night, please drop a note.
Also on anime business, a shoutout to my friends at Anime Boston this weekend, and especially the homeboy crew at Fenway House, I had a great phone conversation with all you guys today. While it seems that we have almost all outgrown anime cons, at least we haven't outgrown each other. :3 I love you all.
...was that just some Talia/Ivanova canon lesbianism I caught in Babylon 5? Yes, yes I think it was. It's a pity they axed that possibility so quickly, cause...wow. I'd be so much more motivated to watch the show if it had lesbians!
Also, with two episodes left to go in the season, I'm starting to like the show. A little.
Okay, so that whole thing about hacking Jade Empire and replacing models? Easy as hell when you're just replacing the model of one PC with another. I seriously just had to open up some files, replace just one value, and that was it. Trying to do NPC's is a pain though, because you have to dig around for the files for their models, compile them into specific file types, and then mess around with code...but PCs? Easiest hack I've ever done. I'm almost thinking this is too easy, there must be a catch. I know for sure that all the cut scenes will have the Ming model in them (which means the kiss will too) but I think the pre-rendered movies will have Wu the Lotus Blossom. *shrugs* I'm getting the female conversation options which is a good indicator that I'm doing things right.
And for proof that I did it, here's a screenshot, which also proves that I really, really need a new computer. Important screenshots will probably be done on Jeremy's computer from now on. :p
Will update more screenshots as I play, if hilarity/yaoi warrants. Personally, I think the pose Ming is in already is pretty hilarious. He's just getting ready to do that Z-snap already, you can tell.
I'm blogging a lot today, which is always a sign of there being a lot of work to do at lab, because obviously any punting I do is directly proportional to the amount of work that I have to get done at some point in the distant future.
The wonderful Haz has saved me 12 hours of my life by playing through JE as Yeti Tiger Shen with a Sky romance. We were wondering what happens in the kiss scene because Tiger Shen is the only PC bigger and taller than Sky. With all the other characters, canonically, Sky bends down to kiss him/her because every other PC is smaller than he is.
So we were wondering if there was an exception for Tiger Shen because he's so huge, but no, no there's not. BioWare programmers are lazy and Tiger Shen mysteriously shrinks.
We find this ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS.
I'm not very much of an evolutionary biologist/sociologist, but I wonder if there's been any academic discourse on the phenomenon of "cute" being a product of nature's way to get us to protect the small and vulnerable to ensure survival.

Phone is on the fritz. I think it's having battery-related problems. I hope it's just an isolated incident, but I know with things like phones it's never the case. On a completely unrelated note, I think I've been working on the CF Ming/Sky pr0n I've been talking about for somewhere close to a week now. It's 8 pages, and I still feel like it's nowhere near done, nor near the quality that I would like to be. (Yes, I know, I know, I'm talking about the quality of pr0n here. A girl's got to have standards, yo!) If I get it done at all this weekend, it'll be a miracle. =_=

There's a guy in my kung-fu class who's an ass. :( He was putting on all this attitude today because I get paid more than he does as a UCLA grad student. Like my salary is something that I control. *rolls eyes* If you want more money, go into the life sciences. Don't talk to me like I don't deserve the money I'm getting, that's just rude. :/ I work hard as a grad student too, and it's not my fault that there's more money in the life sciences than there are in other fields. He also bashed Humanities students and called them "leechers" which is also very rude. =_=;; *sighs* I think I'm going to try not to talk with him. People like that just piss me off.
On the upside, Crispin Freeman's in my class. It's funny, I didn't think his regular voice was particularly special when I was talking to him, but then again, I don't notice voices in my native language. I guess he just wasn't pulling out his bishounen voice, for which I probably should be relieved.
Apologies to Galahad yesterday for punting him for a couple of weeks. =___= I'm bad. But I got most of my reading done for the next week, which is a very, very good thing. :3 In the off hours I also finished my Jade Empire closed fist game, which makes Wikipedia a liar when they say that Sky can serve as the new Death's Hand in one of the endings. :( Boo~ I hate it when Wikipedia lies to me. *cries*
Had a nice seder with my friends in the evening, it was less so about the actual ritual and more about the friends, the drinking, and the food--which was very good. Yay for my first seder. :3
Oh, and Happy Easter to everybody too. Nothing like the resurrection of Jesus as an excuse to eat copious amounts of chocolate.

Wow, there is nobody in lab right now. Mostly because the professor is taking a vacation, so it's slack time! :D What have I been doing all day? Reading papers (productive!), running an immuno, (productive!) and googling for gay penguins (no production of any kind!)
So of the things on my to do list for last night:
- check state taxes
- write check to Mom & Dad
- call Roni
- blog about Vegas trip last week
- order Ethics textbook online
- read 3 papers for journal club
- hack Jade Empire
the only thing I got done was "check state taxes" and I ended up doing that this morning. :( What was I doing the rest of the time? Watching B5, watching the Colbert Report reruns, and playing Jade Empire. Guess which one of the three took up the bulk of my time.
I have a theory that if I hack come Jade Empire code, replace some of the female character models with the male character models, or even manage to change some of a character's attributes, I think I can still get my Sky/"male" PC kiss without the blackout. The same theory of course, would also apply to me getting the "female" PC/Silk Fox kiss without the blackout. This assumes of course, that the rendered cut scenes will read which model I'm using, which is a pretty big assumption. Good thing is, if the assumption is faulty I'll know early on. Given that there are screenshots of a Scholar Ling/Silk Fox kiss on the intarwebs, I'm willing to bet this theory of mine may be sound. But you never know until you try. X3 Okay, goal for this weekend. Homework, Friends, hacking JE. In that order hopefully.
On an entirely different note, I just finished Babylon 5 episode 2x16, "In the Shadows of Z'ha'dum." Which I thought was actually a decent-ish episode. I think my problem with B5 is that I've lowered my standards to match the standards of the show, so instead of every episode having terrible writing and terrible acting and terribly obvious plot devices, everything is now just sort of "tolerable" to me.
So Comma and I originally decided that we would sit it out until the middle of season 2 before we decided we didn't care enough to watch the rest of the show, but now we've extended that to the middle of the first disc of season 3. We're holding out on that one episode that we'll watch and suddenly it'll change our lives and we'll realize the true brilliance of B5...but I gotta ask those of you guys who've watched this series, there is no episode like that is there?
I hate you Florida, I hate you. :(
Damn you and your evilness, Haz, damn you! I've written five pages of CF Ming/Sky smut (and I haven't even gotten to the smut part!) when I should've been writing revisions for the paper my professor wanted to get done last month.
