Onmyoujitsu 101 The Sakura Other Powers
The word 'onmyouji' literally translates to Yin-Yang magician, which tells us something about the source of onmyoujitsu. Onmyoujitsu is based somewhat on the Taoist concept of yin and yang. Yin represents the feminine, dark, passive side of the universe, while yang represents the masculine, active, light side of the universe. These two forces are in constant, but balanced, opposition, locked in a never-ending cycle. It is from this cycle that onmyouji derive their power, and this power can be used for creation, or for destruction. Seishirou, obviously, uses it for destruction.

The Tree is a bit of an enigma in X and Tokyo Babylon. Very little is known about it, other than it is a sakura (cherry) tree that blooms out of season and makes its home in Ueno Park in Tokyo. One other notable quality of the tree is its brilliant pink blossoms, which Seishirou tells Subaru are because the tree feeeds on the bodies buried beneath it, and the blood stains the petals pink. In the fan world, however, the Tree has many incarnations. Some writers choose to personify the Tree, and give it a human form. Others give it a voice instead. In fanfiction, the Tree's personality ranges from malevolent to playful, depending on the writer's view. Much of the Tree and its history is left up to the reader, which gives room for many interpretations.

Seishirou has many magical talents which may or may not be related to his powers of onmyoujitsu and his position of Sakurazukamori. One of the most interesting of these are his skills at creating maboroshi, or illusions. He can create huge illusions, and trap people within them, allowing him to do battle on his own terms, giving him an advantage. Seishirou also has the very neat skill of being able to dissolve, or at least appear to dissolve, into a cloud of sakura petals, which drift of in the breeze - a very fitting exit for a stylish man such as Seishirou.
